After transferring to Concordia from the University of Minnesota Duluth, Whitney Meierotto-Simon, BBA ’09, stepped in and made an immediate impact, earning national recognition in both her seasons on campus while helping the volleyball program claim its first two national championships.

Joining a program that reached at least the NCAA Sweet Sixteen four consecutive seasons prior to her arrival, Meierotto-Simon played a major role in the Golden Bears reaching the pinnacle as the team went a combined 73-5 overall and 35-1 in the Northern Sun in her two years on campus. Her teams went a perfect 12-0 in the NCAA Tournament as they helped set the tone for an unprecedented run of 43 straight wins in the tournament, including seven straight titles.

An extremely versatile player, the Washburn, Wisconsin native (Washburn High School) is one of just six players in program history to tally both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, finishing with 1,181 kills and 1,312 digs between her time at CSP and UMD. Incredibly, Meierotto-Simon ranks in the top eight in career service aces per set (third with 0.37), kills per set (fifth with 3.47) and digs per set (eighth with 3.74) at Concordia.

Meierotto-Simon wasted little time making her presence known as she was named the AVCA National Player of the Week in her very first weekend in navy and gold in 2007. For the season, she wrapped up Daktronics All-Region Second Team and All-NSIC First Team honors. The outside hitter set the single-season school record with 72 service aces, also ranking second in service aces per set (0.52) and fifth in points per set (4.31) in the NSIC and helping guide the team to its first national title.

It was more of the same in year two at Concordia as she locked up Daktronics All-America First Team and AVCA All-America Second Team honors in the 2008 season. After dropping the first match of the season, Meierotto-Simon assisted the squad in rattling off 37 consecutive wins to claim back-to-back national championships. She finished the year second in the league in points per set (3.99) and third in the league in kills per set (3.44).

Meierotto-Simon also got it done in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team and NSIC All-Academic recognition in 2008 as she completed her degree in business administration.

Following graduation, Meierotto-Simon worked with Cru Inner City in Northeast Minneapolis as an assistant to the city director.

Meierotto-Simon has remained involved in the local volleyball community and previously served as the head coach at The Blake School and an assistant coach at Wayzata High School while working with various Junior Olympic volleyball programs in the offseason.

Currently, Meierotto-Simon holds the position of Administrative Assistant at St. Louis Park High School. She also spent the last five years as the Head Volleyball Coach at St. Louis Park High School, guiding the program to a dramatic turnaround culminating in the program’s first ever trip to the state tournament in 2019.

Meierotto-Simon is married to former CSP football standout, wide receiver Calvin Simon, BA ‘09 MA ’12, and the couple had their first child, Cyrus Justus Simon, in February of this year. The trio resides in Edina, Minnesota with a pair of rescue dogs, Huxlee and Lincoln, and their cat, Bootsy.
