After earning his associate’s degree from Brainerd Community College, Tischer quickly earned a reputation as a relentless tackler on the football field and a key contributor on the wrestling mat for the Comets. Despite spending just two seasons on the gridiron at Concordia-St. Paul, the St. Francis, Minnesota (St. Francis HS) native left CSP holding nearly every tackling record for the program.
After opening his career with a staggering 152 tackles (16.8 per game) during the team’s conference title-winning 1978 season, Tischer followed it up with an even better 1979 season in which he set the school record in total tackles with 175 (19.4 per game) while adding five fumble recoveries.
He added another conference title as a wrestler in his lone season on the team as his second place finish at the 1978 Conference Wrestling Championships helped the team win the crown while also earning him qualification for the national meet.
Following his graduation from CSP in May 1981, Tischer spent three years as an assistant football coach for the Comets before becoming the defensive coordinator, wrestling coach and residence director at Concordia River Forest for 11 years, earning his M.A. in guidance and counseling during that time. In 1994, Stan moved his family to Morris, Illinois, where he spent 24 years as a guidance counselor, football and wrestling coach and founder of the award-winning Minooka Angler’s Club before retiring in 2019. He now resides in New Auburn, Wisconsin with his wife, Janis. They are the parents of Joshua, Jacob and Joseph and grandparents of Adelyn, Jason, Rhett, Riley, Brooke, Sadie, Daisy and Wilder.
