Charles was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation, Rev. Brehmer was offered a contract to play baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies, but opted to serve the church in pastoral ministry. Rev. Brehmer served as a missionary in Nigeria from 1962-1976, was Director of Ministiries for Lutheran Bible Translators from 1980-1991, and served as pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Pasadena from 1991-1999.
