As a Comet, Karen Koegel delivered 2,006 assists in the 1994 and 1995 seasons which currently rank fourth in Concordia history and were a school record at the time she concluded her career. She helped pace the Comets to back-to-back UMAC titles in 1993 and 1994, with 12-0 and 11-1 league records – the final two of 5-straight UMAC Championships. The 1994 team reached the NAIA Playoffs and defeated Northern State in the first round. In that 1994 season, Koegel had 982 assists which established a school record. She broke it the next year with 1,024 assists in the same season that she produced 468 digs which were third most in a season at the time. Also an outstanding defensive player, Koegel is a member of the 1,000-dig club with 1,088 for her career which were the second most all-time when her career came to a close, and still rank 10th in team history today.

A community health sciences major, Karen married Concordia classmate and men’s basketball great Jeff Chamberlain (’97), an Athletics Hall of Fame inductee in 2008 in his own right. The St. Paul-native and Cretin Derham Hall graduate is a mother of four children, Noah (11), Ryan (9), Jack (7) and Lucy (3). Now entrenched in the West St. Paul community through volunteering and her children’s school, she has a reputation as a devoted mother and continues to be involved in athletics in adult leagues and youth coaching.
