Concordia-St. Paul Athletic Hall of Fame
Making the short trip from St. Paul Central High School, Adrian Perryman, BA ’07, MBA ’18, came to Concordia and became a 12-time NSIC champion on the track and an NSIC champion on the football field for the Golden Bears.
A two-sport athlete in his first two years on campus, Perryman shined on the track as a short sprinter as he garnered all-conference honors in each of his four seasons as a member of the track and field team. In addition to being a part of the 2003 NSIC championship football team, he helped the track & field squad to its best-ever finish in 2004 as the team finished second in the NSIC Outdoor Championships. Three times, he was named the NSIC Track Athlete of the Week.
Perryman still holds two school records as his time of 6.38 seconds in the 55 meter dash at the 2007 NSIC Indoor Championships, which was a conference record at the time, matches fellow CSP Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Kawaskii Bacon, BA ’09, for the top spot. Perryman, Bacon, Matt Eicheldinger, BA ’09, and 2019 Hall of Fame inductee Kyle Warren, BA ’07, combined for a program-best time of 3:25.01 in the sprint medley relay. Perryman was also the 200 meter dash indoor record holder at the time of his graduation and holds the distinction of being the only athlete in NSIC history to win back-to-back-to-back 55 meter dash conference championships.
After a debut season that saw him take home first in the 4x100 meter relay while also finishing third in the 200 meter dash in the 2004 outdoor season, Perryman made a big step forward in 2005 as he collected All-NSIC honors in seven events. In addition to wins in the 4x400 meter relay in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, he also picked up his first individual conference crown as he finished in the top spot in the 55 meter dash in the indoor season.
He followed with five more All-NSIC honors in his junior season as the 4x400 meter relay team repeated as champions in both the indoor and outdoor seasons while he picked up his second consecutive 55 meter dash indoor championship. Perryman added another crown that season, finishing first in the 200 meter dash in the indoor campaign.
A team captain as a senior, Perryman closed out his career with five more All-NSIC honors, including four NSIC championships, while also being named CSP’s Most Valuable Athlete. He added a victory in the 4x100 meter relay in the NSIC Outdoor Championships, a victory in the 4x400 meter relay in the outdoor championships and a third straight victory in the 55 meter dash in the indoor championships.
After completing his degree in communication studies in 2007, Perryman began his career with Admission Possible, a nonprofit AmeriCorps organization, where he helped students with college preparation at his alma mater, Central High School.
He continued to help high school students access a college education by returning to Concordia in the Office of Admissions also joining the track team as an assistant coach. After six years in admissions, Perryman transitioned from Assistant Director of Admissions to Assistant Director of Academic Advising. As an academic advisor he worked to retain students and make sure they were on track to graduate.
In the spring of 2020, Perryman left Concordia for a new opportunity at Genesys Works. As the Manager of College and Career Access, he works to prepare high school students for a successful post high school career.
He also began a career as a DJ while in the dorms of CSP, and today he owns and operates Events by MV DJ Services, a mobile DJ company providing entertainment for weddings, school dances, corporate functions and other special events in the Twin Cities area.
In his spare time, Perryman stays active in the St. Paul community. He has served on various boards, task forces and councils, including an appointment to the St. Paul Planning Commission by Mayor Chris Coleman. He, along with a group of his high school classmates, started the Philando Castile Memorial Scholarship after Castile was shot and killed by a police officer in July of 2016. The event celebrates the life of Philando Castile, raises money for a scholarship in his name, and creates an opportunity for the community to come together and connect.
Perryman married Sarah Deutsch, BA ’10, a former CSP track and field athlete and record holder, in 2009. They live in St. Paul with their two cats, Simi and LC. He received his master’s in strategic communication management from Concordia in 2018.
