Golden Bears earn two first-place finishes at NSIC Indoor Challenge

MANKATO, Minn.- The Concordia-St. Paul track and field team competed in the NSIC Indoor Challenge hosted by Minnesota State on Saturday. The men's side earned 103 points through 16 scored events, taking second, while the women's side earned 41 points through 17 scored events, taking sixth. 

As a whole, the Golden Bears took home one NCAA DII provisional mark, two first place rankings, and 19 top-five finishes across 15 events. 

Arika Robinson earned the only NCAA DII provo mark for CSP during the afternoon after taking first place in the high jump with a leap of 5'6.5". Robinson is tied for third among NCAA DII female athletes in the event. Teammate Ella Paaverud also competed in the event, tying for fifth with a jump of 5'2.5". 

The men's 4x400m relay group of Arik Johnson, Thomas Schauerman, Jakob Tordsen, and Josh Sims took first place in the event with a time of 3:25.4, the group's best time and the team's best time of the season. 

The running group of Andrew Johnson, Matthew Helser, Calder Erick, and Taaron Rudzitis took second in the 4x400, trailing their first-place teammates by a time of 1.87 seconds. 

Christabelle Mulcahy took second place in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds. Her time was .35 seconds behind first place with 8.49 seconds, earning the runner from Minnesota State an NCAA DII provo mark. 

Thomas Schauerman took second place in the men's 800m run with a time of 1:54.94, 1.05 seconds away from reaching his personal college best time in the event. Matthew Helser followed Schauerman in the run, taking third place with a time of 1:57.15. 

Eben Mundfrom competed in the weight throw for the Golden Bears and took third in the event with a throw of 57'1". He ranks 26th among NCAA DII male athletes in the weight throw. 

Thomas Dietel took third place in the men's 60m dash with a time of 7.00 seconds flat, a new college best for the freshman. Teammate Hudson Jean was not far behind Dietel, taking fourth in the event after trailing by only .04 seconds. He also earned a new college best time. 

Cullen Feist took third place in the 600m run for the Golden Bears, earning a new college best time of 1:27.21. 

Pole Vaulter Sofia Dodge tied for third place in the event with a height of 11'1.5". Dodge was one of three athletes with that mark. A jump of 12'1.25" had two athletes from Minnesota State tie for first, earning NCAA DII provo marks. 

The Bears will next compete in the Phil Lundin Snowshoe Open on Friday, Feb. 18. The meet will be hosted by the University of Minnesota and held in Minneapolis at the UMN Fieldhouse.
