ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Concordia-St. Paul track and field team competed in two meets over the Feb. 4 weekend including the Bearcat Invite and the Gene Glader Classic. The Bearcat Invite was hosted by Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo. and the Gene Glader was hosted by Bethel in local St. Paul.
The Golden Bears had three 1st place finishes and 21 top-five finishes across 15 events as well as a new school record.
BEARCAT INVITE
With a final score of 5171, Jakob Tordsen took third in the men's heptathlon and broke his personal best as well as setting a new school record, besting the previous record of 5151 set by Colin Goligoski in 2015.
In earning his third place rank, Tordsen took first in the high jump with a 2.02m mark, second in the pole vault with a 4.11m mark, third in the shot put with a 12.70m mark, and third in the long jump with a 6.82m leap, among other events. Teammate Calder Erick also finished fifth in the heptathlon with a 4532 score.
Arika Robinson took first place in the women's pentathlon with a score of 3684, a solid 19 points better than the second place finisher. Robinson also collected first place ranks in the high jump with a 1.75m mark and in the long jump with a 5.60m jump as part of the pentathlon.
Eben Mundfrom showed continued success in the weight throw in Maryville. With a distance of 59'5", Mundfrom took fourth place in the event.
GENE GLADER CLASSIC
Cece Lewis took first place in the women's 200m dash in St. Paul on Saturday. She ran the distance in 26.64 seconds, improving upon her original college best time of 26.75 seconds. Lewis also took second place in the 400m with a time of 1:00.28, breaking her old record of 1:01.37 set last week at the Mark Schuck Meet in Mankato.
Lauryn Samuel took second in the 200m dash, trailing Lewis by only 0.02 seconds, the same difference between her old best time of 26.68 and her new best of 26.66. Samuel also took fifth in the 60m with a time of 8.26, 0.01 seconds behind fourth place.
Sydney Jackson took another first place for the Golden Bears with a 1:42.39 time in the 600m. She bested second place by 1.72 seconds and her own teammate, Destiny Mattingly, who took third, by 2.03 seconds. The effort by Mattingly was nearly three seconds faster than the previous record of 1:47.00.
Avery Sivonen took second place in the women's 3000m with a time of 12:01.90, 2.46 seconds out of earning first in the event. Tess Houglum took fifth in the event with a time of 12:47.62, smashing her own personal record of 12:58.23 by 10.61 seconds.
The only Bear to compete in the high jump, Courtney Mensah took second place with a 4'6.25" jump, improving her college best from 4'7" set at the South Dakota Challenge in 2021.
Sofia Dodge and Callie Rientsma were the only Bears to compete in the pole vault and each took a top-five finish. Dodge tied for second with a 10'6" mark and Rientsma placed fifth with a 9'6.25" mark.
Priestly Jibunor took second place in the men's 200m with a 23.65 time, 1.01 seconds behind first. In doing so, he tied his previous personal best of the same time set last week at the Mark Schuck. Nate Segura placed fifth in the event with a time of 23.92, 0.20 slower than fourth place. Taaron Rudzitis took 17th with 24.63, Jackson Klocow took 19th with 24.85, and Kaleb Kazmarek took 22nd with 25.67. Klocow and Kazmarek debuted in the event.
Kazmarek also took fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 10'11.75".
Peyton Enders competed in three events at the Gene Glader Classic, taking a top-ten spot in all three. He placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5'7", sixth in the 60m hurdles with a 9.61 time, besting his previous record of 10.17, and sixth in the pole vault with a 10'0" mark, a college debut.
The Golden Bears will compete next in the NSIC Indoor Challenge hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato on Saturday, Feb. 12.
