MANKATO, Minn.- The Concordia-St. Paul track and field team competed in both the Chuck Petersen Open in Mankato on Saturday and the SDSU Holiday Invite & Multi ton Friday and Saturday.
CHUCK PETERSEN RECAP
At the Chuck Petersen Open, the men's team placed second of 11 with 98 points following Minnesota State who had 216 while the women's team placed sixth of 12 with 38 points.
Concordia had five first place finishes in men's events in Mankato. Additionally, 18 male athletes and 10 female athletes had top-ten finishes.
Eben Mundfrom broke a CSP record with a weight throw distance of 60'7.25", winning first in the contest and defeating the former Golden Bear record of 59'3.5" set by Nasru Wado in 2019. He also earned an NCAA DII provisional mark. Hunter Quinn and Keegan Larson earned fifth and seventh place finishes in the weight throw with 15.52m and 14.55m marks, respectively.
Cullen Feist took first place in the 800m with a 2:01.57 mark.
The Brown, Smith, Yeboah, and Cao group placed first in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:39.08 followed by the Enders, Dietel, Johnson, and Feist group who took second place with a time of 3:46.18.
In the distance medley, Concordia saw first place success in Travis Andrews, Cullen Feist, Thomas Schauerman, and Michael Kraimer who earned a mark of 11:06.28.
Andrew Johnson took first place in the long jump with a 7.02m mark and Tom Cao took 20th with a 5.00m mark. Johnson also earned a sixth place finish in the high jump with a 1.88m mark and Peyton Enders followed in tenth place with a 1.68m mark.
Ashton Brown earned a sixth place finish in the 60m with a 7:12 finish. In the 200m, Thomas Dietel earned 11th, 23.20, and DJ Smith earned 20th place, 24.86. Travis Andrew, 15:50.04, took fourth, Thomas Schauerman, 16:00.21, took seventh, and Michael Kraimer, 16:49.04, took eleventh in the 5000m.
Pole vault showed Calder Erick placing fifth with a 3.75m mark and triple jump had Unity Yeboah earning third with an 11.59m finish.
Keegan Larson took second place in shot put with a 14.87m throw while teammates Hunter Quinn, 13.52m, CJ Picazo, 12.82m, and Calder Erick, 10.66m, followed with sixth, ninth, and 16th place finishes, respectively.
The CSP women's 4 x 400 relay team of Lauryn Samuel, Destiny Mattingly, Gianna Bedford, and Jaid Perry took second place, the highest finish for the Golden Bears, with a time of 4:26.04.
Samuel, Mattingly, and Bedford also competed in the 200m, placing 13th, 27th, and 32nd with times of 26.68, 27.98, and 28.62, respectively.
The 60m was competed by Toni Canfall who took fourth place with a 7.74 time. The 400m, ran by Breonna Graham, showed a 17th place finish with a 1:10.59 time. Perry took on the 600m and finished in fourth place with a 1:49.72 mark. Christabelle Mulcahy took sixth in the 60 hurdles with a 9.30 mark.
Ella Paaverud took fifth in the high jump with a 1.58m finish while Courtney Mensah took 17th with a 4.19m finish in the long jump.
Pole vault showed third, fifth, and seventh place finishes for Golden Bears Sofia Dodge, Abigail York, and Callie Reinstma who had marks of 3.39m, 3.24m, and 3.09m, respectively.
Jenna Morris represented the Bears in the women's shot put and took 12th with a 10.02m throw.
Tia Donlan, 15.89m, Sarah Jeppesen, 11.89m, and Morris, 10.84m, placed fourth, 10th, and 14th in the weight throw.
SDSU HOLIDAY INVITE RECAP
In Brookings, the Golden Bears were represented by senior Jakob Tordsen, senior Arik Johnson, and freshman Josh Hauver in the men's heptathlon and Arika Robinson in the women's pentathlon. All CSP athletes placed in the top-five of participants for their events.
Jakob Tordsen took first in the men's heptathlon where he earned 5026 points and an NCAA DII provisional mark. Teammates Arik Johnson and Josh Hauver followed behind with 4526 and 4015 points, respectively.
Arika Robinson placed second in the women's pentathlon after earning 3623 points and an NCAA DII provisional mark while also earning her own personal record in the event.
Next, the Golden Bears will compete in the Gary Wilson Open hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday, January 8 in Minneapolis.
