LAST TIME OUT
Last Friday, CSP closed out the regular season on a high note as they collected seven wins, including a school record performance for
Cece Lewis in the 400m, at the Meet of the UnSaintly on the campus of Hamline University on Friday night.
In their final meet before the NSIC Outdoor Championships, CSP collected 15 top-five finishes on the men's side and 10 top-five finishes on the women's side in a strong showing.
Lewis collected two of the team's wins on the day as she edged out Alyssa Christianson's school record of 57.03 seconds in the 400m set back in 2014 with a blazing fast time of 56.77 seconds to go along with a win and a time of 25.67 seconds in the 200m as well.
Courtney Mensah made it three wins for the women on the track as she secured the top spot in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.39 while
Ella Paaverud and
Tia Donlan picked up wins in their respective field events. Paaverud claimed a first place result in the high jump by clearing 5'4.25" while Donlan's mark of 158'2" in the discus throw also secured a win. Donlan chipped in a second place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 158'2".
Eben Mundfrom and
Owen Erickson registered the two wins on the men's side as Mundfrom cleared 190'1" in the hammer throw while Erickson wrapped up the 5000m in 15:55.46.
LAST YEAR AT THE NSIC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
As a team last season, the CSP men claimed third place with 84 points while the women finished in 11th with 26 points while the Golden Bears took home All-NSIC honors in eight different events.
Marcus Gustaveson was the headliner for CSP as he took home the conference title in both the shot put and the discus. After winning the shot put and setting a new school record on Friday, the senior won the discus throw by over 10 meters with an NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark of 56.26m on Saturday. With that mark, he set a new NSIC Championships record in the discus. Gustaveson was already an automatic qualifier in the event and ranks second in the nation from a previous performance this season.
Benjamin Allen was also dominant in the meet as he won the 800m with a time of 1:54.84 and finished second in the 1500m with a time of 3:51.00. Allen ranks 20th in the nation in the 1500m with his time of 1:50.81 set earlier this season.
The CSP 4x100m relay team of
Christian Davis,
Lajuan Preston,
Andrew Johnson and
Brian Szutkowski also earned All-NSIC honors as they finished second with a time of 41.63.
Jakob Tordsen had a strong outing in the javelin as he broke the CSP record which he already owned with a throw of 55.52m. Tordsen finished eighth in the decathlon with 5872 points, grabbing one point for the Golden Bears in the process.
The Golden Bear men picked up their total of 84 points across 10 different events.
On the women's side,
Christabelle Mulcahy was named All-NSIC in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.92. That time shattered the existing school record of 14.12 previously set by Mulcahy and was also an NCAA DII provisional qualifier.
In total, six different CSP women contributed to their total of 26 points.
Christian Davis also had an outstanding day on Friday, winning the long jump with a distance of 7.21m and picking up 10 more points for the team while also earning All-NSIC honors.
Mackenzie Schoustra also earned All-NSIC honors as she finished third in the heptathlon with 4291 points. That performance gave the Bears six points.
