DES MOINES, Iowa –
Jakob Tordsen and
Arika Robinson highlighted a strong weekend for the Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams as Tordsen won the decathlon and Robinson won the heptathlon at the Drake Relays while the team also registered 22 top-10 finishes at the Drake Alternative.
Tordsen broke two school records with his performance as his 7145 points shattered Josh Johanson's record of 6472 points set back in 2018 while he blew past his previous best in the javelin throw with a distance of 190'7". He finished no lower than sixth in any of the 10 events, finishing first in the javelin and second in the pole vault and high jump to earn the top spot. His mark of 7145 points pushed him into fifth on the NCAA qualifying list heading down the home stretch of the outdoor season.
Robinson added a dominant performance of her own as she won four of her seven events to finish first with a mark of 5029 points, a full 270 points ahead of any other competitor. Robinson set a PR while claiming the top spot in the 100m hurdles, the high jump, the 200m and the long jump. She added another top-five finish at the meet as her height of 5'9.25" was good for fifth. Robinson now sits in sixth in the pentathlon on the NCAA qualifying list to go along with her #2 ranking in the high jump set earlier this season.
The quartet of
Priestly Jibunor,
Calder Erick,
Taaron Rudzitis and
Thomas Schauerman chipped in a fifth place results in the sprint medley relay at the Drake Relays while
Lauryn Samuel,
Cece Lewis,
Jaid Perry and
Isabella D'Burke set a school record in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:14.03, good for ninth in the meet. The previous school record was set all the way back in 2003 by Heidi Rempp, Ajedoke Adedeji, Natalie Schmit and Emily Shoop.
At the Drake Alternative on Saturday, the men collected a dozen top-10 finishes, including five in the top-five, while the women took home 10 top-10 finishes and seven inside the top-five.
Tia Donlan was the top finisher as she won the discus throw with a distance of 135'10" while she also took second in the hammer throw with a distance of 148'9".
Courtney Mensah tacked on another second place result in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 1:12.10, while
Michaella Hartinger finished the 400m in 1:03.35 to take fourth.
Monique Kai took home fifth in the 100m while
Moira Hazel took home fifth in the 100m hurdles.
All five of the CSP men's top-five finishes at the Drake Alternative came in field events as
Hunter Quinn and
Andrew Johnson each grabbed second place finishes. Quinn cleared 173'5" to finish as the runner-up while Johnson cleared 21'7.5" in the long jump to collect his second place result.
Eben Mundfrom joined Quinn in the top-five in the hammer throw as his mark of 158'5" was good for fourth while
CJ Picazo,
