ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team heads to Mayetta, Kansas for the Firekeeper Open on Monday, March 23. The two round tournament is set to take place at the Firekeeper Golf Club hosted by Washburn.
Tournament and Course Information
Inspired by the prairie and rolling woodlands of Kansas. Firekeeper is a par 72 championship golf course that has hosted multiple professional tournaments as well as a number of elite amateur events. Designed by 4-time PGA Tour winner Noah Begay III and Jeff Brauer, the course offers a layout to challenge players of all skill levels.
13 teams are slated to compete at the Firekeeper Open with the field consisting of CSP, Wayne State, Augustana, Minnesota Crookston, Washburn, Fort Hays State, Central Oklahoma, Rockhurst, Northwest Missouri, Upper Iowa, Nebraska Kearney, East Central University and Dodge City Community College.
Region Rankings
CSP was mentioned in the first NCAA Central Region Rankings. Schools are listed under consideration in alphabetical order in the first edition of the rankings, the Golden Bears are one of five NSIC schools to be mentioned.
The Golden Bears have made the NCAA Central Regionals on eight different occasions, with their last appearance coming 2016. The regional will be played on May 4-6 at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Last Time Out
CSP got their spring season underway by finishing second at the SMSU Invitational in Litchfield Park, Arizona last week. The Golden Bears shot a collective 616 (+40) across both rounds, posting their second-lowest team score of the season and finishing three strokes behind first place Western New Mexico.
Freshman Addi Wood was the top individual finisher for CSP, shooting a 150 (+6) across both rounds to take third place on the individual leaderboard. For Wood it marked her third top-10 finish of the season. Through 12 rounds this season Wood owns a 76.00 stroke average, good for second in the NSIC behind Minnesota State's Emerson Garlie.
For her effort, Wood was named NSIC Golfer of the Week for the third time this season, after finishing first among NSIC competitors at the SMSU Invite.
Piper Hill carded a 154 (+10) across both rounds at the tournament, good for an eighth place finish individually. For Hill the finish marked her second top-10 finish of the season after taking the top spot at the USF Invitational to close out the fall season.
Rebecca DeLong closed out the tournament by matching a single-round low, shooting a 76 (+4) to card a 156 (+13) across both rounds, finishing in 13th place. Darby Barstad carded a 163 (+19) for the tournament finishing in 32nd place.
Ella Matzke rounded out the CSP five by carding a 157 (+13) for the tournament, good for an 18th place finish. Matzke's 157 marks her lowest two round score of the season, besting her 158 at the Jewel Invitational by one stroke.
Marina Allen finished in 39th place, carding a 166 (+22) at the tournament.
