ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams are set to wrap up the regular season this week as they travel to the Maverick Open at Minnesota State on Wednesday before competing in the Meet of the UnSaintly on the campus of Hamline University on Friday.
 
CSP athletes will look to put up some strong final marks before the NSIC Outdoor Championships, which are set to begin next Thursday, May 12 and run through Saturday, May 14.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Jakob Tordsen and Arika Robinson highlighted a strong weekend for the Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams as Tordsen won the decathlon and Robinson won the heptathlon at the Drake Relays while the team also registered 22 top-10 finishes at the Drake Alternative.
 
Tordsen broke two school records with his performance as his 7145 points shattered Josh Johanson's record of 6472 points set back in 2018 while he blew past his previous best in the javelin throw with a distance of 190'7". Robinson added a dominant performance of her own as she won four of her seven events to finish first with a mark of 5029 points, a full 270 points ahead of any other competitor. Robinson set a PR while claiming the top spot in the 100m hurdles, the high jump, the 200m and the long jump.
 
At the Drake Alternative on Saturday, the men collected a dozen top-10 finishes, including five in the top-five, while the women took home 10 top-10 finishes and seven inside the top-five.
 
Tia Donlan was the top finisher as she won the discus throw with a distance of 135'10" while she also took second in the hammer throw with a distance of 148'9". All five of the CSP men's top-five finishes at the Drake Alternative came in field events as Hunter Quinn and Andrew Johnson each grabbed second place finishes. Quinn cleared 173'5" to finish as the runner-up while Johnson cleared 21'7.5" in the long jump to collect his second place result.
 
LAST TRIP TO THE MAVERICK OPEN
In last year's meet back on May 7, 2021, CSP's men finished in third place with 129 points while the women finished in sixth with 47 points.
 
Marcus Gustaveson broke his own school record in the discus with a throw of 59.06m. He is an automatic qualifier in the discus when he had a throw of 59.01m at the Maverick Spring Invite back in early April of that season. He also got the Golden Bears 10 points in the shot put with a throw of 17.10m. Benjamin Allen earned CSP 10 points with a first-place finish in the 1500m with a time of 3:45.43 and Matthew Helser won the 800m with a time of 1:54.90, a new personal best for him.
 
On the women's side, Christabelle Mulcahy placed first in the 100m hurdles and earned the Golden Bears 10 points with a time of 14.55. Sofia Dodge stole the show in the pole vault with a jump 11.5ft to earn first place and a new personal best for her. Hannah Gustafson placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.72m. 
 
LAST TRIP TO THE MEET OF THE UNSAINTLY
All the way back on May 4, 2019, Concordia's two teams combined for 13 top-five finishes and 33 top-ten marks at the Meet of the UnSaintly.
 
Jackie Lindfors ended up collecting CSP's lone victory on the weekend, as the junior distance runner won the 5000m with a time of 20:18.80. It was Lindfors first career victory as a Golden Bear. Also on the track, a pair of CSP sprinters posted top results for the Golden Bears. Toni Canfall placed second in 100m with a time of 12.05, while Christabelle Mulcahy also earned a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.75.
 
Arika Robinson posted a third-place finish for the Golden Bears in the field events as the freshman earned her top result in the triple jump. The St. Paul, Minnesota native reached a distance of 35'3.25" in the event. Robinson also matched the height of fellow high jumper Ella Paaverud, as both reached 5'0.25" Paaverud finished fifth in the event while Robinson placed seventh due to tiebreakers.
 
Lajuan Preston and Marcus Gustaveson were the top finishers for the men, as Preston placed 2nd in the 100m while Gustaveson matched that result in the discus. Preston finished the shortest race in the meet in 10.92 seconds while Gustaveson reached a distance of 161'1" in the discus.
 
The Golden Bears had the fifth-place finisher in three throwing events, as Gustaveson finished fifth in the shot put (50'6"), Thomas Hutchinson finished fifth in the discus (147'11"), and Nasru Wado placed fifth in the hammer throw (167'7"). Parker Powers added a fifth-place result in the high jump with a height of 6'1.25".
