Golden Bears set for pair of local meets this week

CSP to compete at the U of M on Wednesday, Macalester College on Saturday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at a pair of meets this week, starting with the Gary Wilson Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota on Wednesday and concluding with the Rider/Bolstorff Invite hosted by Macalester College on Saturday.

GARY WILSON INVITE INFORMATION
The Gary Wilson Invite, hosted at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, with events beginning at 9 a.m. The Golden Bears will send a select group of athletes to the meet. RIDER/BOLSTORFF INVITE INFORMATION
The Rider/Bolstorff Invite will be hosted by Macalester College at Macalester Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. on Saturday, April 25. Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m. with the discus, javelin, and pole vault, while track events will follow at 11 a.m., beginning with the 4x100-meter relay. LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears last saw action last Thursday when they competed at the CSB/SJU Invite in Collegeville, Minn. The Golden Bear men tallied 53 points in the meet, while the women finished with 42. 

Senior Cade Feist came within seven inches of the Concordia record in the shot put, recording a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 57' 0" to win the event by more than four feet. With that distance, Feist ranks 16th in Division II in the shot put. The five-year-old CSP record in the shot put is held by Marcus Gustaveson and sits at 57' 6.25". Feist also placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 175' 7".'

Fellow senior Keyshawn Pettis also recorded a personal record in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 51' 2.75".

Carter Krummen claimed another individual event win for CSP, winning the hammer throw with a distance of 183' 9".

In the discus throw, freshman Brogan Engfer finished in third place with a new personal-best distance of 148' 2".  Fellow freshman Austin Sikorski joined Engfer in the top five with a distance of 144' 0", good for fifth place.

Fadel Johnson Jr. also recorded a third-place finish after clearing 22' 8.5" in the long jump.

On the track, sophomore Zay Acosta finished fifth in the 400-meter with a time of 49.92 seconds, coming within a tenth of a second of his personal record set earlier this season.

In the pole vault, junior Abid Alam finished in seventh place after clearing a new personal-best height of 12' 11.5".

For the Golden Bear women, sophomore Bernie Barnhardt earned CSP's highest placement with a second-place finish in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 169' 3". Freshman Taylor Thompson finished just behind Barnhardt, claiming third place in the hammer throw with a mark of 154' 2".

Senior Nyadio Chan set a new personal record in the 1500-meter run, clocking a time of 4:48.41 to grab third place.

Fellow senior Maya Lavendusky claimed a pair of third-place finishes in the discus throw and the shot put. Her distance of 126' 0" in the discus marked a new personal record. Freshman Alexis Rathje also scored points for CSP in the discus, setting a new personal record with a toss of 120' 6".

In the long jump, freshman Ashley Kollie recorded a new personal best with a distance of 17' 4.75", good for fifth place.

Kate Miriovsky rounded out Concordia's point scorers with a sixth-place finish in the pole vault.

NSIC LEADERBOARDS
With just a handful of meets remaining in the outdoor season, the Golden Bears currently hold 21 top-10 rankings on the NSIC leaderboards, including 10 top-five rankings. Three Golden Bears also rank in the top 40 on the national leaderboards in three events.
