Golden Bears collect 20 top-five finishes at the Holst Invitational

Mundfrom sets hammer record and Paaverud wins high jump

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Golden Bears track and field teams combined for 20 top-five finishes and 35 top-10 finishes at their home meet, the Holst Invitational, on Saturday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium.
 
On a day bookended by thunderstorms, the teams were able to put together a solid performance with 12 top-five results and 21 top-10 results on the men's side while the women finished with eight results in the top-five and 14 results in the top-10.
 
On the men's side, Eben Mundfrom set a school record on the day as he cleared 182'6" in the hammer throw, edging his own best mark by over a foot to take second place. Hunter Quinn made it two top-five finishes in the hammer as he cleared 172'6" to take fifth while Keegan Larson took fifth with a distance of 146'7" in the discus throw. Andrew Johnson chipped in a third place finish in the long jump with a distance of 22'6.50" while Jakob Tordsen took fifth with a height of 14'3.25" in the pole vault.
 
On the track, Scott Burazin was the top finisher with a third place result in the 10k, finishing in 34"45.61. He was followed closely by Owen Erickson in fourth at 35:06.06 and Matt Thomforde in fifth at 35:40.37. Thomas Dietel put up a time of 21.68 seconds in the 200m to take home fourth while Taaron Rudzitis in the 400m, Thomas Schauerman in the 800m and Matt Krummel in the 3000m steeple chase all registered in at fifth in their respective events.
 
For the women, Ella Paaverud grabbed the team's lone win as she cleared 5'5.00" in the high jump to take the top spot. Christabelle Mulcahy just missed out on making it two wins as her time of 14.15 seconds was good for second. Tia Donlan gave the Golden Bears a pair of second place finishes as she cleared 144'2" in the discus while she also took sixth in the hammer throw.

Cece Lewis racked up a fourth place finish in the 400m with a time of 58.90 while Lauryn Samuel took fifth in the 200m with a time of 25.30.
 
The Golden Bears also took second in the 4x100m relay as Mulcahy, Monique Kai, Samuel and Sofia Dodge combined for a time of 49.20 seconds. Their two 4x400m relay teams took home fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
The team is back in action next weekend at the Drake Relays and the Drake Alternative with the Relays running from Thursday to Saturday with the Alternative taking place at Gustavus on Saturday.
