Bears earn several top-five finishes in SDSU D2 Invite

Mundfrom earns third NCAA DII provisional mark

BROOKINGS, S.D.- The Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams competed in the SDSU D2 Invitational on Friday afternoon, securing one individual first place finish, an NCAA DII provisional mark, a men's eighth place team finish with 35.5 points and a women's 18th place team finish with six points. 

The men's pool consisted of 22 teams and the women's pool was composed of 20 teams, spanning the NCAA DII, the NAIA, and the NJCAA. 

For the men, Hudson Jean of Concordia placed first in the 60m with a 7.08 time. He also took 16th in the 60m hurdles with a 9.06 time. 

Also competing in the 60m dash for CSP were Nate Segura with a time of 7.46 (28th), DJ Smith with 7.59 (37th), Jackson Klocow with 7.61 (39th), Payton Peterson with 7.64 (40th), and Tom Cao with 7.70 (42nd). 

Four Golden Bears competed in the 200m dash including Thomas Dietel who took 15th with a time of 22.84, Peterson who took 48th with a time of 24.34, Smith who followed Peterson in 49th with a time of 24.36, and Segura who took 51st with a time of 24.44. 

Josh Sims was the only CSP representative in the 600m dash, taking ninth place after running the distance in 1:23.99, narrowly missing his personal best of 1:23.40. 

Thomas Scahuerman was also the only CSP representative when he competed in the 800m run. He placed sixth with a time of 1:57.45. 

Matthew Helser ran the one mile in 4:19.92 and took third. He was the only Bear to compete in the event. 

James Frigstad took 20th in the 3000m with a time of 10:33.81 and competed in the race without any teammates. 

Matt Krummel and Matt Thomforde both ran the 5000m. Krummel bested teammate Thomforde with a time of 16:06.54 compared to 16:29.71. The runners placed 18th and 26th, respectively. With that time, Thomforde set a new collegiate personal best. 

Five Golden Bears competed in the 60m hurdles. Jakob Tordsen and Arik Johnson finished nearly neck-and-neck with times of 8.79 and 8.84 to take fifth and sixth, respectively. Josh Hauver and Peyton Enders had similar results, finishing with times of 9,98 and 10.17 for 27th and 28th place. 

Two groups represented Concordia in the 4x400m relay. The Johnson, Tordsen, Sims, and Schauerman group placed fourth in the event with a time of 3:25.83. The second group of Johnson, Smith, Erick, and Enders placed seventh with a time of 3:29.71. 

Andrew Johnson competed as the sole Bear in the high jump event, taking eleventh place with a mark of 6'0.75". 

Tordsen, Erick, and Arik Johnson took part in the pole vault event with marks of 14'1.25", 13'1.5", and 12'1.5", respectively. Tordsen and Erick earned new personal records in the event. 

Andrew Johnson and Erick took fifth and eighth place in the long jump with marks of 22'0.25" and 21'4.75". The jump earned Erick a new college best. 

Shot put was competed in by Keegan Larson and CJ Picazo. The pair finished relatively close with places of 17th and 19th. Larson threw a distance of 45'3" and Picazo at 44'9.5". 

Eben Mundfrom earned his third NCAA DII provo mark of the season in the weight throw after he took 6th place with a toss of 59'6.75". Larson also earned 32nd and threw 44'4.75". 

For the women, two athletes ran the 60m dash. Cece Lewis placed fifth with a time of 8.16 and Lauryn Samuel took 15th with a time of 8.45. 

Two Bears also competed in the 200m dash. Samuel placed 40th after running at 27.68 and Destiny Mattingly followed in 45th with a time of 27.99. It was the first collegiate event Mattingly has competed in and was her only event of the day. 

Jaid Perry ran the 400m and took 25th with a time of 1:044.20. 

Isabella D'Burke ran the 600m and took 13th with a time of 1:45.60. The sophomore earned herself a new personal best in the event. 

Four Golden Bears ran the one mile, all finishing within six places and three of them finishing consecutively. Tess Houglum took 25th (6:26.33), Anna Sajdak took 26th (6:31.57), Delaney Butler took 27th (6:33.09) and Emma Giger took 31st (7:36.55). Houglum, Sajdak, and Giger all debuted in the event. 

The 4x400m relay was run by Samuel, Perry, D'Burke, and Lewis. The foursome took 14th place and finished with a time of 4:17.84. 

Ella Paaverud took 21st in the high jump with a mark of 4'11". 

Two Bears, Sofia Dodge and Callie Reintsma, competed in the pole vault. Dodge took fifth place with a mark of 10'11.75" and Reintsma took 14th with a mark of 9'6.25". 

Tia Donlan, Paaverud, and Sarah Jeppesen were the three CSP representatives in the weight throw. Donlan took 7th with a new personal best of 53.4'25" and Paaverud also took home a new personal best with a throw of 47'1", placing 18th. Jeppesen's throw of 38.7'5" earned her 46th place in the event. 

Concluding the SDSU D2 Invitational, the Golden Bears will head to Mankato next to compete in the Mark Schuck Open & Multi hosted by Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28 and 29.
