ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's golf teams head down to Edmond, Oklahoma for the Skip Wagnon and Grace Shin Invitationals. The two round Skip Wagnon Invitational is set to take place at the Kickingbird Golf Club, while the Grace Shin Invitational will take place at the Golf Club of Edmond. Both tournaments are set to take place Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6.
Tournament Information
16 teams are slated to compete at the Skip Wagnon Invitational with CSP, Winona State, Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma, Missouri Western, Hutchinson Community College, East Central, Southern Nazarene, Missouri Southern, Oklahoma Christian, Henderson State, Southeastern Oklahoma, Northwestern Oklahoma, Bemidji State, Arkansas Tech and Harding making up the field.
Built in 1971, Kickingbird is Edmond's oldest golf course, designed by Floyd Farley the course has received many awards as the best public golf course in the state of Oklahoma.
21 teams are slated to compete at the Grace Shin Invitational with CSP, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Oklahoma Baptist, Southeastern Oklahoma, Missouri Western, Redlands Community College, Northwestern Oklahoma, Pittsburg State, Southwestern Oklahoma, Central Missouri, Southern Nazarene, Southern Arkansas, Henderson State, Washburn, Central Oklahoma, Drury, Arkansas Monticello, Northwest Missouri, Arkansas Tech and East Central making up the field.
The Golf Club of Edmond provides the most scenic daily fee golf experience in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area. Renovated in 2014 by Mark Hayes, the challenging layout features pristine bent grass putting surfaces, 419 bermuda grass tee boxes and fairways and multiple water and sand features.
Weckwerth earns weekly NSIC honors
For the second time this season freshman Brennan Weckwerth was named NSIC Men's Golfer of the Week following his first place finish at the Jewel Invitational last week. Weckwerth shot a 140 (-4) across both rounds of the tournament to earn individual medalist honors for the second straight week. The mark is the fifth lowest two round score in program history, made possible by a 68 (-4) first round for the freshman.
Last Time Out
The CSP men finished sixth at the Jewel Invitational, shooting a collective 592 (+16) across two rounds of play. Weckwerth led the scoring effort for the Golden Bears, finishing in first place with a 36 hole score of 140 (-4).
Carson Boe put together a 151 (+7) through 36 holes, finishing in 29th place, while Tyler Gandrud was one stroke behind with a 152 (+8) and a 36th place. Sean Leutner carded a 154 (+10) for the tournament, good for a 44th place finish and Josh Esterley rounded out the CSP five with a 153 (+9) and a 41st place finish.
On the women's side the Golden Bears managed a third place finish and put together a team score of 633 (+57) at the tournament. Addi Wood led CSP with a two round score of 146 (+2), finishing in first place individually and taking home individual medalist honors.
It is the second time Wood has taken home individual medalist honors in her career, while also marking her 10th career top 10 finish.
Ella Matzke finished in 18th place with a two round score of 158 (+14), while Mila Jenniges carded a 164 (+20) and Lexi O'Donnell shot a 165 (+21) to round out the scoring for CSP.
Last Season
The CSP men finished in sixth place out of a field of 18 teams at last season's Skip Wagnon Invitational. The Golden Bears shot a collective 842 (+2) across all three rounds of play at the tournament. Three golfers set 54 hole career lows at the event with Trey Timm leading the way with a score of 213 (+3).
Sean Leutner recorded a 25th place finish behind a 54 hole score of 211 (+1), marking the lowest three-round score of his career. Chase Camilli recorded a career low as well with a 212 (+2) finishing in 27th place.
Josh Esterley carded a 214 (+4) last season, while tying a career and program single round low with a 65 (-5) in round one.
On the women's side CSP finished 15th at the Grace Shin Invite last season with a score of 636 (+68) across both rounds of play. Addi Wood was CSP's individual leader with a two round score of 146 (+4), finishing in 14th place.
Ella Matzke managed a 66th place finish, putting together a 36 hole score of 160 (+18).
