EDMOND, Okla. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of play at the Skip Wagnon Invitational this afternoon. CSP recorded scores of 273 (-7) in round one and 281 (+1) in round two for a total score of 553 (-6) to end the day in a tie for eighth place as a team.
273 (-7) marked one of the best team rounds in program history, slotting in fourth behind the 280 (-8) at the 2024 Watkins Invitational and three strokes shy of the single round team low of 278 (-10) at the 2022 Bemidji State Invitational.
Brennan Weckwerth led the Golden Bears scoring effort, with identical scores of 66 (-4) for a two round total of 132 (-8), finishing the day in a tie for fourth place. For Weckwerth it marks his fifth and sixth par or better round of the season, while tying his low round score of 68 (-4) at the Jewel Invitational.
Weckwerth was consistent throughout the afternoon, with just one bogey on the afternoon and a total of 27 pars. The freshman also managed a total of seven birdies across both rounds, five of which came in round one. Weckwerth added an eagle to the scorecard as well, opening the second round with an eagle on the 525 yard, par five, fourth hole.
Josh Esterley ended the day at even par with a two round score of 140 (E), with a round one total of 73 (+3), while shooting a 67 (-3) in round two. Esterley added six birdies to his scorecard across both rounds of play, while recording an eagle on the fourth hole in round two as well, holing out on just two shots on the 525 yard, par five. Esterley's strong second round allowed him to move up 29 spots, ending the day in a tie for 40th place.
Carson Boe ended the day in a tie for 53rd place with a two round total score of 142 (+2). Boe turned in a 67 (-3) in round one, making birdie on five holes while shooting a 32 on the front nine. For the sophomore the opening round marked a new career single round low, besting his previous low score of 69 (-2) at last season's CSP/MSU Fall Brawl.
Sean Leutner managed a 147 (+7) across 36 holes to end the day in a tie for 83rd place. Leutner shot a 74 (+4) in round one with two birdies, in round two the sophomore carded a 73 (+3) finishing the day with a total of 25 pars across both rounds.
The final member of the CSP was Tyler Gandrud, who ended the day with a score of 143 (+3). Gandrud turned in an excellent first round with a 67 (-3) to set a new single season low, with a total of five birdies in the opening round. In round two the junior carded a 76 (+6) to end the afternoon in 61st place.
Central Oklahoma finished the day in first place as a team, shooting identical scores of 261 (-19) for a two round score of 522 (-38). Nicholas Canales ended the day as the individual leader for the Bronchos with a two round score of 126 (-14).
The final round of play at the Skip Wagnon Invitational gets underway tomorrow morning with a 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Kickingbird Golf Club.
