Golden Bears sit one stroke back of lead after opening round at the Tracy Lane Memorial

Freshman Addi Wood finished round one with a score of 80 (+8) in third-place, one stroke off the lead entering the final round.

Bemidji, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team got its season underway Monday morning at the Tracy Lane Memorial Tournament. The Golden Bears finished the day in second-place after one round of play at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. 

Addi Wood finished the day as the Golden Bears leader in the clubhouse, with a score of 80 (+8) in her collegiate debut. Wood put together a strong front nine, highlighted by an eagle on the par four, eighth hole and a score of 39 at the turn. Managing par on each of the first five holes to start the back nine, ending the day eight-over-par and in third-place on the individual leaderboard. 

Senior Darby Barstad shot a 84 (+12) in the opening round of play, good for eighth on the individual leaderboard. After shooting a 44 on the front nine, Barstad put together a strong back nine, with a birdie on 16 and par on the final two holes to close out round one 12-over-par. 

Rebecca DeLong and Piper Hill posted identical scores of 86 (+14) to finish tied for 12th at the end of round one. Ella Matzke rounded out the Golden Bears starting five, the sophomore shot an 88 (+16) in the opening round to finish the day in 17th-place. 

The Golden Bears finished round one with a team score of 424 (+48), good for second-place and a two stroke lead over third-place UMary. 

Minnesota-Crookston finished the day atop the team leaderboard with a score of 423 (+47), holding a narrow one stroke lead over the Golden Bears heading into the final round. 

In the individual competition, Crookston's Emma Pierce is tied for first with UMary's Annie Neva both golfers posted a score of 79 (+7) in the opening round. Addi Wood sits just one stroke back of the lead entering the final round of play on Tuesday. 

The Golden Bears are back in action Tuesday morning for the final round of the Tracy Lane Memorial Tournament at the Bemidji Country Club.
