ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia Golden Bears track and field teams collected three wins and 15 top-10 finishes at the Tomcat Invitational on Friday to highlight a two-meet weekend.
The women tallied two wins, six top-five finishes and nine in the top-10 to lead the way at the University of St. Thomas.
Arika Harbo and
Ella Paaverud each picked up a win and two top-five results on the day, as Harbo won the high jump and Paaverud won the hammer throw.Â
Harbo's mark of 5' 8.75" was the top mark in NCAA Division II in the outdoor season while her third-place finish and time of 14.34 seconds in the 100m hurdles moved her into 19th in the nation in the event.
Paaverud took home the top spot in the hammer with a distance of 161' 1", moving her into 47th in the country in the event, while she followed Harbo in the high jump with a height of 5' 2.25", good for second.
Sydney Jackson added a second-place finish of her own with a time of 58.72 seconds while the quartet of
Lauryn Samuel,
Jaid Perry,
Carolina Scott and
Courtney Mensah combined for fourth and a time of 4:18.75 in the 4x400m relay.
The men picked up four finishes inside the top-five and six in the top-10 while
Eben Mundfrom gave CSP wins in the hammer throw in both genders. Mundfrom cleared 187' 3" in the hammer to grab the men's squad's lone win in the meet.
Concordia put two in the top-five in the 200m as
Tarnue David took fourth with a time of 22.67 seconds and
James Howard took fifth with a time of 22.72 seconds.
Jackson Klocow,
Nate Segura,
Tarnue David and
Jerry Chanzu rounded out the top-five efforts on the day as they combined for a time of 42.57 seconds in the 4x100m relay to take second.
At the USD Early Bird,
Calder Erick took sixth place in the decathlon with 6064Â points. On day one, he took first in the 400m with a time of 50.28 seconds while he also added third-place results in the 100m and the long jump. He will conclude the competition with the final five events on Saturday. He got off to an even better start on day two by winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.32 seconds before taking second in the discus. He followed with a third-place result in the pole vault and fourth in the javelin throw before his day came to an end with a DNF in the 1000m.
The Golden Bears resume action next Saturday in the Norse Invite while
Arika Harbo will make the trip west to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational.
