Golden Bears compete at pair of Wednesday meets

Concordia begins final week before NSIC Championships with athletes in Mankato and St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track and field team competed at a pair of events on Wednesday afternoon, sending athletes to both the Joe Sweeney Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., and the Todd Pfingsten Open in Mankato, Minn.

In St. Paul, senior Ethan Blischke grabbed the lone event win for the Golden Bears, shattering his personal record with a time of 9:34.17 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Cade Feist earned a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 53' 2.25".

Senior Tarnue David also claimed a second-place finish, clocking a season-best time of 22.21 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

For the Concordia women in St. Paul, Nyadio Chan placed fifth in the 800-meter, finishing in 2:14.75.

Senior Maya Lavendusky placed fifth in the shot put (41' 7") and sixth in the discus (125' 4").

Sophomore Bernie Barnhardt secured a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 165' 6".

In Mankato, junior Mehlayna Straub placed in the top two in two events, setting personal records in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.50 seconds, 2nd place) and long jump (18' 7.25", 6th) while winning the high jump with a mark of 5' 4.5".

Sophomore Cam Mata was the top overall finisher for the CSP men in Mankato with a second-place finish in the long jump after clearing 23' 0.75".

The Golden Bears will wrap up the busy week when they compete at both the Badger Challenge and Meet of the UnSaintly on Friday and the Tim Marshall Open on Saturday.
