SERIES HISTORY: CONCORDIA 10, WAYNE STATE 10
Entering the 21st meeting between the programs, Concordia-St. Paul and Wayne State have each secured 10 wins with this Saturday's contest becoming a tipping point in the series. CSP won four of the first five in the series that started in 1999 with Concordia's entrance into the NSIC and held a 6-2 record in the first eight meetings through 2006. From there, Wayne State won eight of the next 11 including three straight from 2007 to 2009 and four straight from 2014 to 2017. Concordia snapped the four game skid in the series with last year's 29-7 win on MidcoSN's Thursday Night Football Game of the Week on a stormy night at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul.

In Wayne, Concordia holds a 4-5 all-time record and has lost two in a row in Wayne America, 27-23 in the last trip in 2017 and 20-17 in 2015. The last four games played in Nebraska have been decided by four points or less and only two of the nine games played there all-time have been decided by more than four points, 1999 (WSC 39, CSP 21) and 2008 (WSC 41, CSP 17).

Head coach Shannon Currier holds a 5-2 record against Wayne State and is 1-1 in two trips to Wayne America. In Currier's first term in 2000-to-2003, the Golden Bears went 4-0 against the Wildcats, winning their only road trip 14-11 in 2001. Since rejoining the sidelines in 2016, Currier's Golden Bears are 1-2 against the Wildcats, falling 27-23 in the only trip there in 2017 but winning last year's game 29-7 in St. Paul.

LAST MEETING, 2018: CONCORDIA 29, WAYNE STATE 7
Concordia couldn't be slowed down by a pair of lightning delays or the Wayne State Wildcats on Thursday night football last year in week four, winning 29-7 to snap a four game losing streak to WSC while evening the all-time series at 10-10.

It was also the program's first three game winning streak at Sea Foam Stadium, which opened in 2009.

The game had a kickoff delay of 25 minutes followed by a one our, 29 minute first quarter delay after CSP took a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard Shaq Johnson touchdown run.

Johnson had 12 carries for 94 yards along with the TD to lead CSP to a 200-yard rushing performance on 43 team attempts. Johnson also had his season ended due to injury in the contest.

Following the delay, defensive end Jackson Dobbs secured a sack that led to a 3-and-out with WSC snapping the ball out of the end zone for CSP's first safety since 2012 and a 9-0 lead.

Following an early second quarter 30-yard field goal by Jonas Schenderlein, quarterback Dom McKinzy connected from 31 and 40 yards to Marcus Gustaveson and MJ Williams, respectively.

The McKinzy-Williams TD came with just five seconds to play in the half and gave CSP a 26-0 lead.

In the second half, WSC didn't score until 4:25 to play in the fourth quarter, a 1-yard touchdown run by D'andre Vanexel who finished the game with seven carries for 45 yards.

Schenderlein added his second field goal with 1:36 to play from 36 yards out after CSP recovered WSC onside kick.

Gustaveson finished with four catches for 85 yards while Williams had six for 79. McKinzy completed 15-of-31 for 198 yards and leading a turnover free offense, adding 10-for-43 rushing with a long of 28.

Concordia's secondary combined to shut down one of the league's top receivers, Nate Rogers, to just 40 yards on five receptions in the game while Marcus Haskins picked off his fourth pass in as many games, added a forced fumbled (recovered by Shawn Aarhus) and had a pair of pass deflections.

Concordia's defensive front had six quarterback hurries and three sacks which led to eight pass breakups. CSP held WSC quarterback Aaron Bleil who was averaging over 290 yards per game entering play, to just 103 yards on 11-of-28 passing. WSC as a team completed 14-of-39 for 160 on the game.

Kelly Pierce and Chris Garrett joined Dobbs with a sack apiece.

LAST WEEK: #3 MINNESOTA STATE 29, CONCORDIA 3
In a battle of the last two unbeatens in the NSIC South Division, third-ranked Minnesota State prevailed 29-3 over Concordia as the two teams' defenses were the centerpiece of the competition.

MSU capitalized on a significant early game field position advantage, averaging a start at its own 48 in the first quarter while Concordia averaged the 22 yard line and was faced with the wind in addition to the stingy Maverick defense.
By game's end, MSU carried a 16 yard average starting position advantage.

The Maverick defense certainly played a part in that, holding CSP to 14 rushing yards, 134 yards of total offense and eight first downs.

Concordia's defense had a tough task, with the nation's third-ranked team boasting 550 yards of total offense and 364 per game on the ground.

The Golden Bears held firm against MSU, limiting well below those marks but MSU still managed to total 386 yards of offense and 220 rushing yards.

The defense was led by sophomore linebacker Jake Portz with his second-striaght 15-plus tackle performance, securing 15 tackles after racking up 18 last week and pushing his season total to 40 which ranks second in the country.

Senior defensive end Jackson Dobbs had eight tackles, 2.0 for loss  and a third down sack to stop MSU's opening drive on a 3-and-out.

Also adding strong defensive performances were junior linebacker Dalton Smerchek with seven tackles and a sack, junior defensive end Chris Garrett had five tackles, 1.5 TFL and a sack.

The secondary recorded its first interception of the season by junior Lorenzo Kendricks, halting a second quarter MSU drive at the 30 yard line - his first career interception.

The offense was led by senior wide receiver MJ Williams with four catches for 52 yards and a long of 35 while senior Jabril Clewis had two catches for 39 yards.

Senior quarterback Maxon Hutton completed 11-of-21 for 120 yards and a long of 35 while adding 15 yards on the ground with a long of 19.

Danny Laudet led the special teams with a strong 42.3 punting average on seven punts with a career long of 63, adding a fourth yard 44 yard field goal.
