Williams picks up a pair of wins at the Northwest Open

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams opened up 2016 with a trip to the University of Minnesota in the Northwest Open. Gloria Williams provided a real bright spot as she wrapped up a pair of wins in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash.

Williams highlighted Concordia's nine top-5 and 14 top-10 finishes on the women's side as the team put up a strong showing against several fellow NSIC schools. Her times of 7.87 seconds in the 60m and 26.64 seconds in the 200m took the top spot in both events.

Erica Young added a pair of top-5 finishes as well as a top-10 result in her three events. She finished third in the high jump, fourth in the 200m and sixth in 60m hurdles. Gretchen Feilen also added a pair of top-5 finishes with a second place finish in the high jump and third place finish in the pole vault.

Despite facing a field featuring athletes from the University of Minnesota, the Golden Bears snagged two top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes on the day.

Tyler Naumowicz had a hand in each top-5 finish as he finished fourth in the 60m hurdles and helped the 4x400m relay, along with Vantwon Melton, Adam Hausken and David Stanley, to another fourth place finish.

Stanley also finished sixth in the 400m while Vantwon Melton chipped in a seventh place result in the 60m.

Concordia will return to the University of Minnesota next weekend as they take part in the Minnesota Open.
