Men's Track and Field | 2.15.15
BROOKINGS, SD – The Concordia University track and field team competed in the SDSU Open on Friday and Saturday. This meet brought the indoor regular season to an end.
The two-day meet had many more teams participating than any other meet Concordia has attended this year.
The women runners were a bright spot for the Golden Bears. Sprinter
Gloria Williams set seasons bests in the 60m and the 200m. On the long distance side,
Maggie Marcus set a personal record. She ran the mile in 5:17.21 to place 20
th.
This was the first time this year that head coach
Sam Johnson put a team together for the women's distance medley. The legs of the race in order were:
Erin Spatenka,
Kalle Burney,
Jordan Gray, and
Maggie Marcus. They ran well and placed fourth with a time of 12:42.21.
For the men's short-mid distance runners,
Vantwon Melton set two personal records in the 200m and the 400m.
The men's freshman field athletes had a good showing in Brookings.
Josh Johanson was a centimeter short of a school record in the high jump. His score of 2.04 meters was good enough to qualify him provisionally for the national championships. Johanson now ranks 24
th nationally and has the fourth highest jump of any Division 2 freshman.
Freshman
Aaron Joppru continues to improve his scores. He set a personal record and placed eighth in a field of 28.
On the women's side,
Esther Jandrich had a good day. Following a school record-breaking meet last weekend, she placed eighth and pole vaulted to a height of 3.65.
The multi-event members of the track and field team will compete in Mankato on Sunday and Monday. A recap will be available on Monday.
The NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships are the 26-27
th of February.
