MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams kicked off a busy week of competition on Wednesday, with CSP athletes competing at both the Stomper Open hosted by Minnesota State and the Dutch Spring Multi hosted by Central College.

Senior Carter Krummen provided a major highlight for the Concordia men at the Stomper Open, breaking his personal record and hitting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a distance of 187' 3" in the hammer throw. With that distance, Krummen now ranks 37^th in Division II this season in the hammer throw.

Freshman Fadel Johnson Jr. also logged a second-place finish in his outdoor debut at CSP, clearing 47' 8.5" in the triple jump.

Fellow freshman Jayden Kuhlman grabbed another second-place tally for the Bears in the 400-meter, clocking a time of 49.69 seconds.

Senior Dan Otto recorded a new season best in the discus throw, using a toss of 162' 7" to place third.

Sophomore Cam Mata logged a new personal record in the outdoor long jump, clearing 23' 9" to place third and come within three inches of the school record. Mata also placed high in the 100-meter dash, coming in third place with a time of 10.81 seconds after clocking a time of 10.62 seconds in the preliminaries.  

Senior Maya Lavendusky tied as the top overall finisher for the CSP women in Mankato, placing second in the shot put with a distance of 41' 7.75".

Sophomore Bernie Barnhardt also grabbed a second-place finish in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 173' 1".

Junior transfer Sophia Crespo made her outdoor debut for Concordia, placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.82 seconds.

Senior Karlina Zimmerman clocked a season-low time of 59.68 seconds in the 400-meter, good for fifth place.

At the Dutch Spring Multi in Iowa, CSP's Mehlayna Straub claimed second place in the women's heptathlon, logging a a new career high point total with an NCAA provisional qualifying 5085 points. With that score, she ranks third in all of Division II in the heptathlon this season. On day one, Straub finished first in both the high jump and the 200-meter dash, while placing second in both the 100-meter hurdles and the shot put. On day two, she claimed first in the long jump, second in the javelin, and fifth in the 800-meter. She set new personal records in the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter, and javelin throw.

Sophomore Mina Nguyen also set a new personal record in the heptathlon, tallying a total of 3881 points to finish in fifth place among the 11 competitors. In the process, Nguyen set personal records in the 200-meter, shot put, and javelin.

In the men's decathlon, Concordia's Jeffrey Odamtten finished in eighth place with 5879 points. Odamtten set personal records in both the 100-meter and 400-meter. 

Junior Will Hugo placed 12th in the decathlon with 5617 points, setting a new personal record in the 100-meter dash in the process. 

Golden Bear athletes will continue competition this weekend at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday and the Minnesota State Open on Saturday.
