LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team ended round one of the Jewel Invitational in second place. The Golden Bears shot a collective 312 (+24) in the opening round of competition.
Addi Wood finished the day in a tie for first place atop the individual leaderboard, carding a 72 (E) first round. Wood birdied three times in the first round on holes one, three and six while making par on 12 holes.
The sophomore shot a 34 on the front nine, while carding a 38 on the back nine. For Wood it is the eighth time she has finished par or better in a single round and the first this season.
Ella Matzke shot a 78 (+6) in round one to finish the day in a tie for 14th place. Matzke managed three birdies on day one, starting with the 510 yard, par five, first hole and adding two more on holes eight and 14.
Matzke mixed in six pars as well, scoring a 40 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine.
Freshman Lexi O'Donnell opened the tournament with a score of 80 (+8) to end the day in a tie for 20th place. O'Donnell made par on 10 holes in the opening round.
Mila Jenniges rounded out the scoring for CSP with a 82 (+10) in round one. Jenniges birdied twice on holes six and 16, ending the round with seven pars as well to finish round one in a tie for 31st place.
Addy Timm was the final member of the CSP five and finished the day with a score of 87 (+15). Maddy Vang competed independently and turned in a first round score of 94 (+22).
Augustana finished round one in the team lead behind a collective 303 (+15), Sioux Falls sits two strokes behind the Vikings with a score of 305 (+17). CSP and Upper Iowa are tied for third at 24-over-par. Both the Peacocks and Golden Bears hold a 10 stroke lead over Minnesota State and SMSU who are tied for fifth.
Carmen Jirele of Augustana is tied with Addi Wood for the individual lead after shooting 72 (E) in the opening round. Both hold a two stroke lead on UIU's Addison Weber and Winona's Megan Young who are tied at two-over-par for third place.
The final round of the Jewel Invitational gets underway tomorrow morning at the Jewel Golf Course in Lake City.
