Golden Bears sit in fourth place through one round at SMSU Invite

Addi Wood sits in a three-way tie for first individually after carding a 73 (+1).

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team wrapped up round one of the SMSU Invitational in fourth place. The Golden Bears shot a collective 309 (+21) in the opening round at the Wigwam Golf Course. 

Addi Wood led the way for CSP, carding a 73 (+1) in the first round to finish the day atop the individual leaderboard. Wood currently sits in a three way tie for the top spot with Isabella Pesicka of MSU Denver and Falyn Lackey of Western New Mexico. 

The freshman golfer started the day by shooting a 39 (+3) on the front nine, before turning it on in the back nine, birdying three times, including back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 to shoot a 34 (-2) to close out the afternoon. 

Piper Hill finished the day in 18th place after carding a 78 (+6), adding two birdies to the scorecard on holes seven and 12. Ella Matzke carded an identical 78 (+6), shooting a 40 on the front nine, before recording three birdies on the back nine to card a 38 to close the afternoon. 

Rebecca DeLong shot an 80 (+8) in round one, starting the day off with a birdie on hole one and adding 11 pars on the scorecard to finish the opening round in 24th place. 

Darby Barstad rounded out the CSP five, shooting a 85 (+13) in the opening round with one birdie on hole five, the 511 yard par five, closing out the day in 48th place. Marina Allen carded a 78 (+6) to finish round one in 18th place. 

Western New Mexico closed out round one atop the team leaderboard, shooting a collective 30 4(+16) to hold a three stroke lead over second place Colorado Mesa. 

The final round of play at the SMSU Invitational gets underway tomorrow morning at the Wigwam Golf Course.
