Golden Bears take second place at SMSU Invitational

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team captured a second place finish at the SMSU Invite after shooting a collective 307 (+19) in round two. The Golden Bears shot a 616 (+40) across both rounds, it's CSP's second best team placement of the season after opening the season with a first place team finish at the Tracy Lane Invitational to open the year. 

It's also the Golden Bears second-lowest team score of the season, behind only the 612 the posted at the Jewel Invitational in the fall. 

Addi Wood shot a 77 (+5) in the final round to card a 150 (+6) for the tournament, finishing in third place on the individual leaderboard. The finish marks Wood's third top-10 finish of the season after claiming the top spot at the Tracy Lane Invitational and notching second place finishes at the CSP Fall Brawl and Jewel Invitational. 

Wood tallied three birdies on the day, with two on the front nine to shoot a 38 at the turn. The freshman added one more on the back nine to finish the second round five over par and six over for the tournament. Wood's third place finish is the best among NSIC opponents, one stroke ahead of Minnesota Crookston's Anaka Lysne. 

Piper Hill shot a 76 (+4) in round two to card a 154 (+10) for the tournament finishing in eighth place. For Hill's it's her second top-10 finish of the season and second lowest two round score of the season after shooting a 150 (+6) to close out the fall and win the USF Invitational. 

Hill notched one birdie on the front nine, taking a 40 into the turn, before coming away with an eagle on the 464 yard, par five, 13th hole to finish round two four over par. 

Rebecca DeLong matched her single round low for the season, shooting a 76 (+4) in the final round to card a 156 (+12) to finish in 13th place. DeLong's 13th place finish matches her placement at the Tracy Lane Invitational earlier this season. 

The junior golfer birdied three times in the final round, with two on the back nine on holes 13 and 15, while making par on nine holes to finish four over for the day. 

Darby Barstad carded a 78 (+6) in the second round to shoot a 163 (+19) for the tournament, finishing in 32nd place. Barstad notched two birdies in the final round on holes four and eight to finish six over par. 

Ella Matzke rounded out the CSP five, shooting a 79 (+7) in the final round to card a 157 (+13) for the tournament, finishing in 18th place. For the sophomore it marks her lowest two round score of the season, besting her 158 at the Jewel Invitational by one stroke. Matzke's round was made possible by tallying three birdies on the front nine to shoot a 35 at the turn, finishing the day seven over par. 

Marina Allen carded a 88 (+16) in round two to shoot a 166 (+22) for the tournament, finishing in 39th place. 

Western New Mexico claimed the top spot on the team leaderboard shooting a collective 613 (+37) to finish three strokes ahead of CSP. Isabella Pesicka of MSU-Denver and Falyn Lackey of Western New Mexico finished with identical scores of 148 (+4) and in a tie for first place individually. 

The Golden Bears will take two weeks off before heading down to Mayetta, Kansas for the Firekeeper Open hosted by Washburn. The two round tournament is set to take place March 23 and 24.
