GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team sits in third place through one round of play at the Maverick Desert Classic. The Golden Bears shot a collective 285 (-3) in the opening round at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Freshman Carson Boe led the way, carding a 69 (-3) in the opening round to finish the day tied for first place on the individual leaderboard. Boe got his day started by notching three consecutive birdies, dropping just one shot in the front nine. On the back nine Boe added two more birdies while making par on six of the nine holes.
Trey Timm shot a 71 (-1) in round one, finishing the day in a tie for 11th place on the individual leaderboard. The senior birdied three times on the back nine, making par on the other six holes to shoot a 33 and finish the day one under par.
Josh Esterley also carded a 71 (-1), to finish the day tied for 11th with Timm. Esterley notched one birdie on the front nine to head into the turn one over par. The sophomore put together a strong back nine, adding two eagles on 11 and 15, with one birdie on hole 13 to finish the day one under par.
Freshman Sean Leutner carded a 74 (+2) in the round one, adding three birdies to the scorecard on holes two, 14 and 15 to finish the day in 33rd place. Chase Camilli rounded out the CSP five, shooting a 88 (+16) in round one.
Sam Lunde finished the day with a 74 (+2), birdying twice in round one to finish the day in 33rd place. Cale Thompson carded a 76 (+4), while adding four birdies to the scorecard, while Camden O'Malley and Sam Rudolph both shot a 79 (+7) in round one.
Washburn finished round one on top of the individual leaderboard, shooting a collective 279 (-9) finishing the day with a four stroke lead on second place Pittsburg State.
Play continues tomorrow morning at the Palm Valley Golf Club for the final round of action at the Maverick Desert Classic.
