GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Maverick Desert Classic this afternoon. The Golden Bears shot a collective 302 (+14) in round two to finish the tournament with a score of 587 (+11) at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Carson Boe finished in a six-way tie for first place atop the individual leaderboard, the freshman golfer shot a 73 (+1) in the final round to card a 142 (-2). The mark is a new career best, beating his previous two round low of 144 (+2) at the CSP Fall Brawl, while also marking the first top-10 placement of his career.
Boe opened round two with a birdie on the second hole, adding another birdie on hole seven to go into the turn one over par. On the back nine, Boe added two more birdies, finishing the day with four, while making par on 11 holes to finish in a six-way tie for first and as the top finisher among NSIC opponents.
Josh Esterley, shot a 72 (E) in the finals round to card a 143 (-1) for the tournament, climbing seven spots on the finals day to finish in seventh. Esterley made par on each of the first nine holes for a score of 36 on the front nine. On the back nine, the sophomore added seven pars, with one birdie on hole 14, finishing the round at even par.
Trey Timm carded a 78 (+6) in round two to finish the tournament shooting a 149 (+5) and in 34th place on the individual leaderboard, tallying two birdies in the final round on holes 11 and 14. Sean Leutner carded a 79 (+7) in the final round to finish with a score of 153 (+9) and in a tie for 44th place.
Chase Camilli rounded out the CSP five, shooting a 79 (+7) in the final round and carding a 167 (+23) for the tournament to finish 81st.
Camden O'Malley shot a 74 (+2) in round two, with an eagle on hole two to card a 153 (+9) for the tournament, finishing tied for 44th. Sam Lunde shot a 76 (+4) in round two to finish with a tournament score of 150 (+6), matching his two round low at the CSP Fall Brawl earlier this season to finish in 37th place.
Sam Rudolph carded a 77 (+5) in round two, finishing with a two round score of 156 (+12) good for 58th place. Cale Thompson carded a 78 (+6), closing out the tournament with a score of 154 (+10), finishing in 49th place.
Pittsburg State and Washburn finished in a tie for first with identical two round scores of 580 (+3). Bemidji State finished in third, four strokes behind the Gorillas and Ichabods as the top NSIC squad at the tournament.
The Golden Bears will take two weeks off before heading down to Smithville, Missouri for the NSIC Preview at the Paradise Pointe Golf Club. The two round tournament is set to take place March 23 and 24.
