EDMOND, Okla. — The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team concluded round one of the Grace Shin Invitational at the Golf Club of Edmond on Monday afternoon. CSP finished the opening round in 12th place after carding a collective 307 (+23) in the opening round of competition.
Addi Wood paced the Golden Bears effort, turning in a 68 (-3) first round to end the day in first place individually. Three-under-par is a new single round career low for the sophomore, while tying the program record low. Wood's 68 (-3) is tied with Rachel Gray, who shot a 69 (-3) on a par 72 course at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships.
The sophomore's previous career low was 70 (-2) which she managed twice last season at the Firekeeper Open and the Wildcat Classic.
Wood's stellar first round was made possible by five birdies, including three on the front nine and back-to-back birdies on holes five and six. On the back nine Wood added two more birdies and shot a 33. The sophomore was consistent throughout the round with a total of 11 pars on the afternoon.
Ella Matzke finished the day in a tie for 42nd place with a score of 77 (+8) in the opening round. Matzke birdied once on hole 14, while making par on 13 holes. Mila Jenniges shot an 81 (+10) to end the day in a tie for 79th place, while adding 11 pars to the scorecard.
Hattie Hemthong made her collegiate golf debut for CSP, shooting 81 (+10) in her first career round to finish the day tied for 79th. Hemthong started the afternoon with a par followed by back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11.
Lexi O'Donnell rounded out the CSP five with a score of 88 (+17) in round one, O'Donnell recorded three birdies in the opening round on holes four, five and 11, while making par on five holes.
Addy Timm competed independently, finishing with a score of 91 (+20) in round one.
Arkansas-Monticello ended the day in first place as a team with a score of 291 (+7). Ali Perry of Arkansas-Fort Smith is tied with Wood atop the individual leaderboard, ending the day with a score of 68 (-3) as well.
The second and final round of the Grace Shin Invite gets underway tomorrow morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at the Golf Club of Edmond.
