SMITHVILLE, Mo. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team tied for seventh at the NSIC Championships at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex with a team score of 982 (+118). Piper Hill led the Golden Bears tying for 25th with a total of 244 (+28).
Hill shot rounds of 78 (+6), 80 (+8) and 86 (+14) at the NSIC Championships. Her third round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-three hole six. Hill was three-over-par on par threes in the tournament as a whole, tying for the seventh-best score of any golfer. She led the Golden Bears in the tournament with 29 total pars.
Darby Barstad shot 83 (+11) on Sunday to finish with a total of 245 (+29), one stroke behind Hill. She shot 78 (+6) in round one and 84 (+12) in round two. Barstad knocked in a birdie on hole nine. She made a team-high four birdies at the tournament while also putting in 23 pars.
Ella Matzke also shot 83 (+11) on Sunday with an 82 (+10) in round one and an 83 (+11) in round two. That total of 248 (+32) tied for 32nd. She knocked in a birdie on hole nine and finished even par on her last six holes of the day. The freshman tallied two birdies and 24 pars in total at the NSIC Championships.
Freshman Marina Allen had the best round of any Golden Bear on day three shooting 79 (+7). She shot 88 (+16) in round one and 87 (+15) in round two for a total of 254 (+38), tying for 38th. Allen moved up nine placements on day three and knocked in her lone birdie of the tournament on hole 14.
Rebecca DeLong scored rounds of 87 (+15), 79 (+7) and 89 (+17) for a total of 255 (+39) and tying for 40th. She totaled 22 pars and a birdie in the tournament. Her 79 (+7) in round two was the best score by a CSP golfer on Saturday.
The Golden Bears tied Minnesota Crookston in seventh place. CSP and UMC were 18 strokes ahead of Southwest Minnesota State in ninth place. The teams were three strokes behind Minot State in sixth place.
Minnesota State won the NSIC Championship by 11 strokes over Augustana (S.D.). The Mavericks totaled a score of 921 (+57) as a team led by Emerson Garlie in first place with a total of 218 (+2). MSU's top four golfers ranked in the top 16 with Victoria Woytassek in fifth shooting 231 (+15).
Augustana's Shannon McCormick placed second shooting 226 (+10), eight strokes behind Garlie in first. Sisters Maggie Veneendall of Sioux Falls (S.D.) and Lanie Veenedall of Augustana tied for third shooting 228 (+12).
