SMITHVILLE, Mo. - The Golden Bear women's golf team finished the NSIC Preview on Tuesday in 11th shooting 679 (+103) at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex. Darby Barstad and Piper Hill shot 167 (+23) to lead the team tying for 34th.
Hill jumped up 12 placements on day two shooting a team-best 84 (+12) after shooting 83 (+11) in the first round. A birdie on hole 11 was the highlight of her day. Hill finished with two birdies, 14 pars and 11 bogeys over the two rounds.
Barstad shot 86 (+14) after shooting 81 (+9) in the first round. She tallied two birdies in each round and her four total tied for the fourth-most by any golfer at the tournament. The junior shot 43 (+7) on both the front and back nine in round two.
Freshman Ella Matzke tied for 59th shooting 175 (+31). She moved up eight spots shooting three strokes better in round two. Matzke tallied two birdies, 11 pars and 14 bogeys in the two rounds.
Rebecca DeLong tied for 62nd shooting 176 (+32) after rounds of 82 (+10) and 94 (+22). Marina Allen tied for 64th shooting 177 (+33) with rounds of 86 (+14) and 91 (+19). Both of Allen's rounds were used toward the team score.
The Golden Bears finished ahead of Minot State by three strokes and Upper Iowa by 19 strokes. CSP was two strokes behind Minnesota Crookston in 10th place.
Augustana (S.D.) took first place shooting 626 (+50) beating Wayne State (Neb.) in second by four strokes at 630 (+54). Washburn and Minnesota State tied for third place shooting 637 (+61).
Victoria Woytassek of Minnesota State and Shannon McCormick of Augustana tied for first place shooting 150 (+6). Wayne State's Gaia Stancikova placed third shooting 151 (+7). Woytassek and Stancikova shot the best rounds of 72 (E) in round one. McCormick shot 75 (+3) in both rounds.
The Golden Bears travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota next week to compete at the Augustana Spring Invite on April 7-8. The tournament takes place at Elmwood Country Club.
