Golden Bear women's golf finishes seventh in Arizona

DeLong places 29th shooting 159 (+15) over two rounds

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ari. - The Golden Bear women's golf team took seventh place in the SMSU Spring Invite at Wigwam Golf Club. The Golden Bears shot 647 (+71) as a team after shooting rounds of 329 (+41) and 318 (+30). 

Sophomore Rebecca DeLong led CSP tying for 29th finishing at 159 (+15). She shot 78 (+6) on Tuesday after shooting 81 (+9) on Monday. Her Tuesday score tied for the lowest round of her career. 

DeLong tallied 10 pars, seven bogeys and one birdie on Tuesday. She did not shoot more than bogey on any hole during the second round. 

Darby Barstad tied DeLong's Tuesday score at 78 (+6) to finish tied for 34th at 161 (+17). Barstad totaled a team-high three birdies on Tuesday finishing with five in the tournament. All of Tuesday's birdies occurred on par fours. 

Ella Matzke tied for 45th shooting 165 (+21). The freshman tallied a score of 81 (+9) on day two. Matzke finished the tournament strong with a birdie on hole 18. 

Piper Hill also tied for 45th with rounds of 81 (+9) and 84 (+12). She finished with a total of 165 (+21). Hill's second round was highlighted by a birdie on hole nine. 

Marina Allen shot 167 (+23) after a strong round of 81 (+9) on Tuesday. Tuesday's round counted toward the team score. Allen started the day hot with birdies on holes two and four. She placed 52nd individually and her second-round score was the lowest of her young career. 

Grand Valley State (Mich.) won the tournament shooting 577 (+1) as a team. The Lakers finished Tuesday with a score of 286 (-2). Academy of Art (Calif.) took second shooting 598 (+22) and Western New Mexico was in third shooting 606 (+30). 

GVSU's Olivia Stoll took first place with a score of 141 (-3). She shot rounds of 70 (-2) and 71 (-1). Evelyn Park of Grand Valley State tied for second competing as an individual. Orraya Jan Tpasathien of Montana State-Billings tied with Park in second place shooting 144 (E). 

The Golden Bears finished four strokes ahead of Southwest Minnesota State in eighth place. CSP was 12 strokes behind Colorado Mesa in sixth place. 

Concordia-St. Paul has a few weeks off before competing at the NSIC Preview at Paradise Pointe Golf Club in Smithville, Missouri. The three-day tournament hosted by Minnesota State takes place from March 30 to April 1.
