Golden Bears to head back to Mankato for Maverick Premier #1 and #2

Events set to begin at 11 a.m. each day

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul track & field teams will head to Mankato, Minn. this weekend for the Maverick Premier #1 and #2 on Friday at Saturday. Field events are set to kick off at 11 a.m. each day while track events will follow at noon.

USTFCCCA EVENTSQUAD RANKINGS
The Golden Bear men rank in the top 15 in a pair of events in the latest USTFCCCA EventSquad rankings, with CSP's 60-meter hurdlers ranking 10th in Division II with an average time of 8.36 seconds and the men's weight throwers ranking 13th with an average of 65.58 meters.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears competed last Saturday at the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota.

For the second week in a row, junior Nyadio Chan broke the school record in the indoor 800-meter run, placing second with a time of 2:18.92. Her time was more than a half second faster than the CSP record she set last week, and her converted time of 2:17.34 currently stands as the eighth fastest in the NSIC this season.

The Concordia men were highlighted by senior Davion Williams in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.09 seconds to shatter his personal record. His time is tied with teammate Drake Daniels for fourth in the NSIC and 31st in all of Division II this season.

Cadence Tanner continued her strong sophomore campaign, setting a personal record of 8.97 seconds to place second in the 60-meter hurdles while placing third in both the high jump and long jump with marks of 1.55 meters and 5.24 meters, respectively.

Junior Dan Otto had a strong outing, setting personal records in both the shot put (16.19m) and weight throw (17.18m) to finish fourth in both events.

In the women's throws, freshman Bernie Barnhardt had the best outing of her young career, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.99 meters and placing 8th in the shot put with a mark of 12.28 meters, setting personal records in both events.

Jerry Chanzu picked up the lone event victory of the afternoon for Concordia, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.74 seconds.

Junior Chidera Osuoha placed well in a pair of sprinting events, setting a personal record of 8.02 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish sixth and placing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.00 seconds.

LAST TRIP TO THE MINNESOTA STATE
The Golden Bears last competed in Mankato just two weeks ago at the Mark Schuck Open on January 31 and February 1.
 
The Mark Schuck Open was a scored meet, with the Concordia men placing third out of 16 teams with 62 points and the women placing seventh out of 20 teams with 41 points.

A pair of school records fell, with junior Nyadio Chan clocking a time of 2:19.58 in the 800-meter run to beat Kalle Burney's 2018 record by seven hundredths of a second. On the men's side, freshman Del Johnson set a new program record in the 300-meter dash, clocking a time of 34.87 seconds to beat the previous record of 35.29 seconds set by Tarnue David just last season. Johnson also set a new personal record in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 49.31 seconds to win the event.

Freshman Cam Mata continued to shave time off his sprints, setting a new personal record of 7.04 seconds in the 60-meter dash to place 8th.

A pair of Golden Bear sophomores placed top five in the 500-meter dash, with Vance Landa clocking a personal-best time of 1:08.14 to finish second and Jacob Jensrud finishing in 1:09.93 to place fifth.

Freshman Zay Acosta made his collegiate debut in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:00.99 to place fifth. Continuing the trend of impressive debuts, freshman Andrew Alexander ran the first 5,000-meter run of his career and finished in 15:57.07 to place sixth.

Junior Dan Otto also set a new personal record, placing fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 16.98 meters (55' 8.5").

Elsewhere at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan., senior Drake Daniels finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14 seconds. In the prelims, Daniels logged his fastest time this season with an 8.12-second clocking, the fifth fastest in the NSIC this season and tied for 36th fastest in all of Division II

Senior Emmett Faltesek placed 10th in the mile run at the Washburn Open, clocking the fastest time in the NSIC so far this season with a time of 4:09.66 to set a new personal record.

For the women, freshman Addy Nelson competed in the 500-meter dash for the first time in her collegiate career, placing second with a time of 1:26.58.

The CSP relay squad of Karlina ZimmermanChidera OsuohaNyadio Chan, and Destiny Mattingly competed in the 4x400-meter relay, winning the event with a time of 4:08.67.

Jumper Cadence Tanner had a season best performance in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5' 3.25") to place third.

Junior Maya Lavendusky placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 12.78 meters (41' 11.25").
