LAKE CITY, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team took sixth place at the Watkins Invitational on Tuesday. Jenna Schumacher and Piper Hill led the Golden Bears tying for 15th shooting 153 (+11).
Concordia shot 627 (+59) as a team finishing 10 strokes behind Winona State in fifth place. The Golden Bears finished 13 strokes ahead of Minnesota Crookston in seventh place.
Schumacher had the best second round of any Concordia golfer shooting 76 (+5). She highlighted her day with back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17. After shooting 77 (+6) yesterday, the 153 (+11) marks the freshman's lowest total score in her short time as a Golden Bear.
Hill had the opposite rounds of Schumacher shooting 76 (+5) in round one and 77 (+6) in round two. She finished the tournament with seven birdies and 18 pars. 153 (+11) is also the junior's lowest total score of the season.
Darby Barstad tied for 28th shooting 159 (+17). Barstad shot 78 (+7) in round two after shooting 81 (+10) on Monday. She finished the tournament with seven birdies and 11 pars.
Rebecca DeLong tied for 36th after scoring 162 (+20). She matched Barstad's second-round score of 78 (+7) on Tuesday. DeLong tallied three birdies and 17 pars at the Watkins Invitational. Freshman Ella Matzke finished tied for 46th after shooting 167 (+25) with one birdie and 15 pars.
St. Kate's won the invitational with a team score of 590 (+22) beating Minnesota State by seven strokes. Sioux Falls took third place shooting 605 (+37).
Sophia Karsina of Sioux Falls won the tournament shooting 144 (+2). She had an incredible second round with the only score under par in the tournament at 69 (-2). Grace Petzold of St. Kate's took second place shooting 146 (+4).
The Golden Bears are off this upcoming week before heading to the Grace Shin Invitational in Edmond, Oklahoma on Oct. 7-8. The Invite serves as the Central Region Preview hosted by Central Oklahoma at Kickingbird Golf Club.
