BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team took fourth place at the Tracy Lane Memorial at the par-72 Bemidji Town and Country Club on Tuesday. The Golden Bears had three golfers finish in the top 10, highlighted by freshman Jenna Schumacher placing third.Â
Schumacher finished the tournament with a total score of 163 (+19). This was the sixth-best score by a freshman in their two-round debut in school history. Her third-place finish tied for the best placement in a freshman debut with Lexi Partington in 2018.Â
The freshman's day started strong. After a birdie and a bogey, Schumacher went on to par the next five holes, putting her in first place on the leaderboard. Those pars didn't last as she was +12 on the final 12 holes. Schumacher shot 84 (+12) in round two after shooting 79 (+7) in round one on Monday.Â
Junior Piper Hill tied for eighth place after finishing with a total score of 170 (+26). Hill played consistent bogey golf with 10 of them on Tuesday to shoot 87 (+15) after shooting 83 (+11) on Monday. This is Hill's second top-10 placement at the Tracy Lane Memorial after she tied for second place last season.
Wyoming native Darby Barstad finished with the best round of the day from any CSP golfer at 83 (+11) to tie for 10th at 171 (+11). Barstad tallied eight pars in the round after shooting seven in her 88 (+16) round-one performance. This was the junior's highest finish at the Tracy Lane Memorial after she tied for 16th last season.Â
Sophomore Rebecca DeLong rounded out the top four finishing tied for 19th. She tallied rounds of 89 (+17) and 88 (+16) for a total score of 177 (+33). DeLong's highlight of the day was a birdie on hole four.Â
Freshmen Ella Matzke and Marina Allen placed t-21st and 33rd respectively. Matzke was consistent shooting two rounds of 89 (+17) to total 178 (+34). Allen posted rounds of 92 (+20) and 94 (+22) for a total of 186 (+42).Â
The Golden Bears fell eight strokes behind tournament champion UMary. CSP shot 681 (+105), one stroke behind Minot State in third place and three strokes behind Minnesota Crookston in second place. CSP finished 20 strokes ahead of fifth-place Jamestown.
UMary's Carrie Carmichael won the tournament shooting 160 (+16) after shooting the lowest first-round score of 78 (+6). Anaka Lysne finished in second place one stroke ahead of Schumacher after posting the lowest second-round score of 78 (+6).Â
The Golden Bears return home next week to host the CSP/MSU Fall Brawl on Sept. 16-17 at Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wisconsin. CSP placed fifth at last year's Fall Brawl.
