ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul head football coach
Shannon Currier has announced the addition of 39 additions to the football program for the 2024-25 academic year.
"This recruiting class aimed to address needs. We have 19 starters coming back, which is exciting, so we are using this class to fill some holes that will be left after next year's graduation," said Coach Currier. "In college football, it's not realistic to expect true freshmen to make an immediate impact. If they can impact next year, that's great, but we are solidifying our roster to continue building and moving in the right direction. This is an investment in our future."
Of the six mid-year transfers who have already enrolled and will be with the team for the spring season, four bring important game experience to the program.
"The mid-year additions are guys who we expect to help immediately:
James Wade fills a role in replacing a graduating starter, getting a quality offensive lineman such as
Brandon Morales (Montgomery) is always helpful, and on the other side of the line of scrimmage,
Keshawn Johnson adds another explosive player to our defensive line, which is significant.
Jordan Johnson earned valuable experience as a true freshman Division II starter at Chowan. He brings desire and competitiveness to be great, which will help our secondary."
The rest of the incoming recruiting class features a strong mix between offensive skill position, linemen, linebackers, secondary and special teams contributors.
"We are excited about the number of quality athletes that we are bringing into the program. We have a lot of skill positions addressed on both sides of the ball, and when it's all said and done this class will feature three interior defensive linemen which was a target," said Coach Currier. "The linebacker unit coming in is special. We have two really strong Minnesota prep quarterbacks from winning programs that I feel great about. They are both winners. And we were able to land a local kicker, to boot!"
While the bulk of the recruits have been announced on signing day, the staff expects to additional talent in the coming days, as well as at opportunistic points in the offseason leading into fall camp.
"Recruiting is a year-round thing and we are always looking to add more players who can help us. While signing day brings an end to most of our 2024 recruiting efforts, we are always on the lookout for a player who can help make the program better."
