Golden Bears finish fall season in sixth place at Sioux Falls Invitational

Schumacher, DeLong and Hill each tie for 19th place individually

LARCHWOOD, Iowa - The Concordia-St. Paul women's golf team wrapped up the fall season on Tuesday placing sixth at the Sioux Falls Invitational at Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort. Freshman Jenna Schumacher, sophomore Rebecca DeLong and junior Piper Hill all tied for 19th with a total score of 163 (+19). 

Schumacher had the best day of any Golden Bear shooting 81 (+9), after shooting 82 (+10) on Monday. The freshman tallied one birdie, eight pars, eight bogeys and a double bogey in the round. This score tied her debut for her second-lowest two-round total of the season. 

DeLong shot 83 (+11) after shooting 80 (+8) in round one. She tallied two birdies on the day after shooting one on Monday. This is DeLong's second straight week shooting 19 over par in a tournament. 

Hill finished at 88 (+16) on Tuesday after shooting 75 (+3) in the first round. After tallying five birdies yesterday, she was unable to record one in round two. She did finish with the second-most birdies in the tournament and shot 15 pars with one more in round two than in round one.  

Darby Barstad rebounded in round two shooting 83 (+11) after shooting 88 (+16) in round one for a total of 171 (+27). She led the Golden Bears in birdies on the day with three and tied for 40th. Barstad and Schumacher finished the tournament even on par fives. 

Ella Matzke shot 85 (+13) in round two for a total of 168 (+24), tying for 34th. She started her day strong with a birdie on the opening hole and bogeyed three out of her last four holes. 

The Golden Bears totaled a score of 652 (+76). This was four strokes behind Minnesota Crookston in fifth place and 16 strokes ahead of Minot State in seventh place. 

Wayne State won the invitational shooting 626 (+50), finishing six strokes ahead of Augustana and Winona State tying for second. Minnesota Crookston's Clara Hanson won the tournament shooting 148 (+4). 

Hanson tied for the best round on day two of the tournament shooting 76 (+4). Her round of 72 (E) on Monday was the best individual round in the tournament. She shot two under par on par threes. Abbigail Brodersen of Wayne State finished in second place shooting 72 (+7). 

Concordia-St. Paul will continue to practice this fall and winter before returning to action in the spring.
