Men take sixth, women seventh at the Minnesota State Open

Mundfrom and Tordsen reset their school records

MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's track and field team took sixth while the women's team took seventh at the Minnesota State Open on Saturday afternoon as the men finished with 67.5 points and women finished with 38.
 
Two school records fell on the day as Eben Mundfrom and Jakob Tordsen each broke their own records in the hammer throw and the javelin throw, respectively. Mundfrom claimed the team's lone win on the day as he increased his school record by over two feet as he cleared 181'1" in the hammer throw to win the event. He also tacked on two points with a seventh place finish and a distance of 146'4" in the discus to finish the day with 12 points. Tordsen took home third in the javelin as his distance of 182'4" eclipsed his best mark of 2021 by two inches to reset the best mark at CSP. He also cleared 21'10" in the long jump to add two more points with a seventh place finish.
 
In total, the men had 16 point-scoring finishes and 22 finishes inside the top-10 on a solid day. CJ Picazo and Hunter Quinn gave CSP two more top-five finishes in the throws as Picazo scored six points with a third place result in the discus with a distance of 156'4" while Quinn put up a mark of 167'4" to take fourth and score five points in the hammer.
 
On the track, Jackson Klocow, Hudson Jean, Andrew Johnson and Thomas Dietel finished the 4x100m relay in 41.87 seconds to score eight points with a second place finish while Owen Erickson's mark of 34:35.10 in the 10k was good for fourth and five points.
 
Thomas Dietel (200m), Matthew Helser (800m), Andrew Johnson (high jump) and Calder Erick (pole vault) all added fifth place results in the their respective events to give Concordia's men 10 finished in the top-five.
 
The women tallied 11 point-scoring results in their 13 top-10 finishes on the day. Tia Donlan accounted for two of those results and 10 of the team's 38 points as she cleared 151'6" in the discus throw to take second and eight points as well as a seventh place finish and two points with a distance of 157'8" in the hammer throw. Her mark in the discus was good for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
 
Concordia added seven points in the pole vault as Abby York cleared 10'2.75" to take third and score four points while Callie Reintsma took sixth with a height of 9'9" to score three points.
 
Christabelle Mulcahy, Monique Kai, Lauryn Samuel and Sofia Dodge picked up the team's largest points haul on the track as they wrapped up the 4x100m relay in 49.26 seconds to take third to collect six points.
 
Cece Lewis scored in two events as she took fifth and scored four points with a time of 59.22 in the 400m to go along with a seventh place finish and two points with a time of 25.57 in the 200m. Lauryn Samuel (200m) and Moira Hazel (100m Hurdles) each took home sixth place results and three points apiece as well.
 
Concordia has a pair of mid-week meets this week as they head to the Tomcat Twilight at St. Thomas on Wednesday and the Lee Krough Invitational at Gustavus Adolphus on Thursday.
