Golden Bears set for Roy Griak Invitational on Friday

Men's 8k scheduled for 12:00, women's 6k at 12:45

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's cross country teams will return to St. Paul this weekend for the 35th annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday, September 24.

MEET INFO
The Roy Griak Invitational will be held at Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul Minn. The men's 8k is slated for a 12:00 start while the women's 6k is scheduled for 12:45. On the men's side, 31 teams will compete in the Jo Rider Maroon 8k race, including 10 from the NSIC. For the women, a total of 33 teams, including 12 from the NSIC, will participate in the Suzy Wilson Maroon 6k.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Golden Bears competed at the Lucian Rosa Invite in Kenosha, Wis. The men claimed fifth place out of eight teams with 119 points and the women's team took seventh out of eight teams with 214 points.

On the men's side, the Golden Bears were once again paced by their young runners as each of CSP's top five finishers were freshmen.   Matthew Helser led the pack and finished in 18th place, clocking a time of 26:44.4 in the 8k. Fellow freshman Thomas Schauerman came in just behind him, finishing in 20th with a time of 26:51.9.

Travis Andrews was the third runner to finish for CSP, crossing the line with a time of 27:04.9. Owen Erickson and Matt Krummel rounded out the top five for the Bears, finishing 28th and 29th with times of 27:19.0 and 27:30.2, respectively.

For the women, Avery Sivonen was the top runner as she finished in 36th place and set a new course record for the Bears with a time of 24:55.8. Kelsey Thelen and Anna Sajdak were in lockstep with Thelen finishing 57th with a time of 26:32.5 and Sajdak finishing 58th with a time of 26:32.6.

Isabella D'Burke was the next Golden Bear to cross the finish line, taking 61st place with a time of 27:05.0. Tess Houglum finished as the fifth-place runner for CSP, clocking a time of 27:20.7 and grabbing 65th place overall.
