Softball heads to MSU Moorhead this weekend, games at Northern State canceled

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, CSP's doubleheader with the Wolves has been canceled

ST. PAUL, Minn. – This Saturday's softball game between Concordia-St. Paul (20-16, 14-8 NSIC) and Northern State (22-14, 13-9 NSIC) scheduled to be played in Aberdeen, South Dakota has been canceled due to COVID-19 testing protocols.
 
Per Northern Sun scheduling guidelines for this season, the doubleheader between the Golden Bears and the Wolves will be not rescheduled.
 
CSP will then travel to Moorhead, Minnesota to play the MSU Moorhead Dragons (7-28, 5-16 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

CSP will then then return home for their last regular season games against Sioux Falls (S.D) and Southwest Minnesota State for a couple of doubleheaders. Those games will take place during the weekend of May 8th-9th at Carlander Field.

LAST TIME OUT 
Concordia played six games last week with one being against a nationally ranked opponent. CSP played #20 Winona State (28-7, 17-5 NSIC) last Thursday, before hitting the road north to play Minnesota Crookston (8-28, 4-18 NSIC) and Bemidji state (10-26, 6-16 NSIC) over this past weekend. 
 
Thursday, April 22nd 
The Golden Bears first took on the nationally ranked Warriors at home. Winona State was able to sweep the Golden Bears during an impressive pitching performance by Jordyn Kleman in game one, she allowed only three hits on zero runs while striking out eight batters. In game two the Warriors brought out their bats as Libby Neveau hit two home runs for Winona State to propel them to the doubleheader sweep.

Saturday, April 24th
CSP bounced back in a big way against Minnesota Crookston. Concordia exploded for 11 runs in game one as Kali Kaestner held the Golden Eagles to just three runs on five hits. CSP scored even more runs in game two but so did UMC to make it an exciting finish as the Golden Bears swept the doubleheader.

Sunday, April 25h
The Golden Bears looked to complete the weekend sweep with a matchup with the Beavers. It was a competitive back and forth game in game one, but Concordia couldn't get that key hit as Bemidji Sate took game one. CSP was able to string together a couple of key hits and Aryka Knoche had an impressive pitching performance as the Golden Bears took game two, splitting the doubleheader.

MSU MOORHEAD SERIES HISTORY 
This will be the 47th and the 48th meeting between the Golden Bears and the Dragons. Concordia currently holds a 38-8 record over MSU Moorhead and has a nine-game winning streak against the Dragons. MSUM last defeated CSP on 4/10/16.

GAME 1: CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL 9, MSU MOORHEAD 5
A 12-7 hit advantage in game one helped the Golden Bears earn a 9-5 decision over the Dragons, as CSP scored three runs late to seal the win. A four-run inning in the top of the sixth for MSUM made it a one-run game (6-5), but Concordia's offense answered with three runs of their own to give themselves some breathing room.
 
GAME 2: CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL 9, MSU MOORHEAD 0 (5 INNINGS)
In game two Concordia collected their third shutout of the year in a five-inning 9-0 win. Kaestner only allowed two hits in the outing, pitching her first complete game shutout of her CSP career. The Bears once again reached double-digit hits, holding a 10-2 edge.  

ABOUT THE DRAGONS
MSU Moorhead is currently 7-28 on the season with a 5-16 conference record. They have split with Northern State (S.D.), were swept by #20 Winona State, split with Upper Iowa, swept by Minot State (N.D.), split with Minnesota Crookston, Bemidji State, and SMSU, they have one loss against Sioux Falls (S.D.), swept by UMary (N.D.), #1 Augustana (S.D.), and Wayne State. They will host #18 Minnesota State before hosting the Golden Bears. 
 
The Dragons are hitting .235 as a team with a .273 slugging and a .295 on-base percentage. They have scored a total of 82 runs and have stolen 22 bases. MSUM has hit only one home run on the season. Emma Drummer is leading the Dragons with a .333 batting average, eight doubles and 14 RBI's for a .414 slugging percentage. 
 
Anna Lang leads the Dragon pitching staff with a 6.10 ERA with eight complete games. Reece Dahl leads the staff with 101.1 innings pitched with 47 strikeouts. 
 
GOLDEN BEAR TEAM LEADERS
Grace Beseman continues to lead the Golden Bear offense with a .368 batting average, 42 hits, eight home runs and 33 RBI's for a .667 slugging and a .397 on-base percentage with 13 stolen bases. Clara Heislen is second on the team with a .328 batting average, she leads the team with 30 runs scored, second on the team with 38 hits and a .517 slugging percentage and a .392 on-base percentage. She has carried a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. 
 
Kris McIntyre is hitting .315 with 29 runs scored, 13 RBI's, a .407 slugging percentage and a .358 on-base percentage and nine stolen bases. Amanda Parsons is hitting .308 with 32 hits,18 runs scored, leads the team with two triples and is second on the team with seven doubles. She tied with Heislen for second on the team with five home runs, third on the team with 21 RBI's and is slugging .558 which is second best on the team, she carries a .363 on-base percentage and a .996 fielding percentage. Aryka Knoche is hitting .286 with 30 hits, three home runs, second on the team with 22 RBI's, is producing a .410 slugging percentage and a .312 on-base percentage. 
 
Kali Kaestner leads the pitching staff with a 9-6 record with a 2.62 ERA, has 92 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched, with nine complete games and a save. Bryanna Olson is pitching to a 3.35 ERA with a 5-6 record, four complete games one save, 74 strikeouts in 75.1 innings of work. Aryka Knoche is 6-3 with a 4.14 ERA in 66 innings of work. She has 48 strikeouts and has pitched four complete games.
