Golden Bears sweep Golden Eagles

CSP takes down UMC in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears (19-15, 13-7 NSIC) swept Minnesota Crookston (8-26, 4-16 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon in Crookston, Minnesota. The Golden Bears took game one due to the eight-run rule and scored 13 runs in game two to complete the sweep of the Golden Eagles.
 
CSP will complete their weekend road trip at Bemidji State (9-25, 5-15 NSIC) tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
GAME ONE: Concordia-St Paul 11, Minnesota Crookston 3
The Golden Eagles took the lead early in game one in the bottom of the first inning. Rachel Jones homered off of Kaestner in the first inning to give UMC a 1-0 lead over the Golden Bears. 
 
Concordia would answer back in a big way with a three-run top of the third inning. Clara Heislen reached on a fielder's choice with one out, Kris McIntyre singled on a bunt to advance Heislen, Aryka Knoche singled up the middle, scoring Heislen to tie the game 1-1. Amanda Parsons was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Hanna Mortenson singled to center field scoring two to make it 3-1 CSP.
 
Concordia would tack on five more runs in the top of the fourth inning. After two quick outs Clara Heislen was hit by a pitch and Kris McIntyre reached on an error, Grace Beseman singled through the left side, scoring Heislen to make it 4-1. Knoche reached on an error to score McIntyre and Amanda Parsons tripled to score two runners to make it 7-1. Hanna Mortenson would reach on an error to score Parsons to make it 8-1 Golden bears. 
 
Minnesota Crookston scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a couple of singles. But Concordia would respond with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Meagan Bliese hit a one out single to center field and Kris McIntyre was hit by a pitch to make it second and first with two outs. Grace Beseman doubled up the middle to score Bliese and Aryka Knoche singled to score McIntyre and Beseman to make it 11-1 Golden Bears. 
 
Kali Kaestner took it from there as she went all five innings, striking out six while allowing three runs on five hits to earn her ninth win of the season. 
 
Aryaka Knoche drove in three runs on two hits and scored two runs, Grace Basemen went 3-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Amanda Parsons went 1-2 with a run scored and two RBI's. Hanna Mortenson collected a hit and Meagan Bliese went 2-3 with a run scored. 
 
GAME TWO: Concordia-St. Paul 13, Minnesota Crookston 8 
CSP's offense came out firing in game two as they scored four runs in the top of the first inning. After a single and a walk, Aryka Knoche doubled scoring both Heislen and McIntyre. Amanda Parsons hit a two-run home run to make it 4-0 Concordia early. 
 
CSP tacked on two more in the top of the second inning. Clara Heislen singled again and stole her second base of the game. Kris McIntyre placed a bunt single to move Heislen to third base, Grace Beseman doubled to score Heislen and McIntyre scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0. 
 
The Golden Bears kept the theme going in the top of the third inning when they scored two more runs to add to their lead. Hannah Mihalik led off with a single and Alexus Houston singled to shortstop to move Mihalik to second base. Clara Heislen singled, scoring Mihalik and advancing Houston. Heislen and Houston advanced on a wild pitch and Ani Bell singled to third base, scoring Houston to make it 8-0 CSP. 
 
The Golden Eagles were finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning when they scored four runs off of the Golden Bears. Hannah Mihalik reached first on a single, and Taylor Griffin singled to start the fourth inning for the Golden Bears. Alexus Houston singled to left field to load the bases. Clara Heislen doubled to right center field to score two and make it 10-4. Kris McIntyre grounded out to first, which would allow Houston to score and make it 12-4. 
 
UMC would put four more runs on the bottom of the fifth inning to make things interesting late. CSP would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning after a walk and a fielder's choice, Jacey Defries doubled down the left field line, scoring Ani Bella to make it a 13-8 game. 
 
Kristi Pilz closed out the game for Concordia. Bryanna Olson started the game she went three innings allowing four runs on four hits, striking out two. Aryka Knoche pitched in relief, pitching four innings allowing only one hit. 
 
Clara Heislen led the CSP offense going 4-5 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Kris McIntyre, Grace Beseman, Ani Bell, Aryka Knoche, Annaliese Scamehorn, Amanda Parsons, Taylor Griffin, and Jacey Defries each collected a hit in this game. Hannah Mihalik and Alexus Houston collected two hits.
