Golden Bears split with Bemidji State to complete weekend road trip

CSP fell in game one 6-4 but took game two 4-2 from BSU

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears (20-16, 14-8 NSIC) concluded their weekend road trip up north with a doubleheader against Bemidji State (10-26, 6-16 NSIC). CSP fell to Bemidji State in game one after BSU had three big innings where they scored six combined runs. In game two Concordia was able to keep the Beavers to just two runs while they capitalized on their chances to take game two. 
 
The Golden Bears will be back on the road next weekend for a trip to Northern State (S.D) and MSU Moorhead. This will be the last regular season road trip for the Golden Bears. 
 
GAME ONE: Concordia-St. Paul 4, Bemidji State 6
Concordia scratched together a couple of runs in the top of the second inning. Amanda Parsons reached on an error which allowed her to advance to second base. Hanna Mortenson followed up with a single up the middle, advancing Parsons to third. After a pop out, Taylor Griffin placed down a perfect bunt, scoring Parsons and taking a 1-0 lead. Clara Heislen then reached on a throwing error to allow Mortenson to score, giving CSP a 2-0 early lead. 
 
The Beavers would answer in the bottom half of the second inning with a run of their own. Emmarie Yeager led off with a single, she would later advance to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Kaestner struck out Maddy McCann looking, Yeager stole third and Elizabeth Hanson drove her in on a single through the left side to make it 2-1.
 
Bemidji State would take the lead in the bottom of the third inning when they scored two runs on two hits. Kora Martin hit a one out double to left field, Lexi Derrick reached on a fielding error, which allowed Martin to advance to third. Ashley Herold walked to load the bases and Emmarie Yeager doubled to right center, scoring two runs and giving the Beavers a 3-2 lead over CSP. 
 
BSU kept their offensive pace going by plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Elizabeth Hansen led off by reaching on an error, Elaina Christiansen was hit by a pitch to make it first and second. Kora Martin then singled to load the bases and Ashley Herold doubled to center field, scoring all three runners and making it 6-2 Bemidji State. 
 
CSP was finally able to answer back in the top of the fifth inning. After two quick ground outs to start the inning, Amanda Parsons worked a one-out walk and Hanna Mortenson drove her all the way home with a triple to right center field to make it a 6-3 game. Hannah Mihalik pinch hit for Veenbaas and she drove in Mortenson on a single down the left field line to make it 6-4 as CSP inched closer. 
 
Concordia could not get their offense to climb their way back into it as they fell to the Beavers 6-4 in game one. Kali Kaestner started and suffered the loss going four innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven batters. Bryanna Olson pitched well in relief going two innings, allowing only two hits and struck out three batters. 
 
Hanna Mortenson led the Golden Bear offense going 2-4 with two runs scored, one RBI and a triple. Hannah Mihalik went 2-2 with an RBI, Kris McIntyre went 2-4 with a triple, Clara Heislen, Aryka Knoche and Taylor Griffin each picked up a hit, Griffin drove in a run as well. 
 
GAME TWO: Concordia-St. Paul 4, Bemidji State 2
The Golden Bears struck first again in game two. Clara Heislen led off with a triple down the right field line, Grace Beseman doubled to right field, scoring Heislen and giving Concordia an early 1-0 lead. 
 
The Beavers would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning. Lexi Derrick reached on a throwing error which allowed her to take second. She would later advance to third on a wild pitch and Sami Dullum drove her in on a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game 1-1. 
 
CSP responded in the top of the third inning when Kris McIntyre reached on a throwing error by BSU's shortstop. Grace Beseman would drive her in on another double, this time to left center field to make it 2-1 Concordia. 
 
The Golden Bears added a few more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Ani Bell led off with a walk and she was lifted for a pinch runner in Hannah Mihalik. Hanna Mortenson singled up the middle, advancing Mihalik. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Taylor Griffin. Then a wild pitch allowed Mahalik to score and Mortenson moved to third, Meagan Bliese singled to right field, scoring Mortenson to make it 4-1 CSP. 
 
BSU added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, Emmarie Yeager doubled to right center field and Lexi Derrick walked and after a fielder's choice which resulted in Yeager being thrown out at third base, Sami Dullum doubled to right center field, scoring Derrick and making it a 4-2 game.
 
That would be all that Aryka Knoche would need to seal the complete game victory for the Golden Bears. She went all seven allowing only one earned run on four hits while striking out six batters to improve to 6-3 on the season. 
 
Grace Beseman provided the thump for the Golden Bear offense; she went 2-4 with two RBI's and two doubles. Aryka Knoche went 2-4, Clara Heislen, Kris McIntyre and Hanna Mortenson all collected a hit and scored a run in the victory. Taylor Griffin and Meagan Bliese both collected a hit, Bliese drove in a run and Hannah Mihalik scored a run in the CSP win.
