Golden Bears set for NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend

Events set to begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams will head to Mankato, Minnesota this weekend for the 2021 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Minnesota State.

MEET INFO
The 2021 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place February 25-27 at Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.  The men will compete over two days, beginning on Thursday afternoon with the heptathlon events and then men's finals on Friday. The women's finals will take place on Saturday. 

No spectators will be allowed at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships, but live streaming will be enhanced on the NSIC Network.

All-Conference performers shall consist of the top three place winners in each event and the members of the top two relay teams from the Conference meet.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, a limited group of the Golden Bears competed at the SDSU Last Chance in Brookings, S.D.  The women finished 10th with four points while the men finished 11th with seven points.
The Golden Bears faced tough competition in the meet, facing off against South Dakota and South Dakota State along with fellow NSIC schools in Augustana, Northern State, Wayne State, Sioux Falls, and Southwest Minnesota State.

On the men's side, William Ray set a new personal record and picked up four points for the Bears with a fifth-place finish in the 200m and a time of 22.31.

Jakob Tordsen competed in the 1000m, taking 16th with a time of 3:11.64. The junior also competed in the shot put, setting a new personal record and taking 13th with a 12.93m throw.

Christian Davis had another strong showing in the long jump, taking fifth place and grabbing three points for CSP with a jump of 6.61m.

For the women, Lauryn Samuel and Christabelle Mulcahy competed in the 200m. Samuel finished 10th with a time of 26.58 while Mulcahy finished 12th with a time of 27.27.

Mulcahy also competed in the 60m hurdles, grabbing four points for the Bears with a fifth-place finish and a time of 8.99.

In the high jump, Ella Paaverud finished 10th with a mark of 1.55m while Rachel Westemeier finished 15th with a jump of 1.50m.

Sofia Dodge grabbed a top ten for CSP, finishing 10th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.32m.

LAST TIME AT THE NSIC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last year at the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships, five Golden Bears were named to the NSIC Indoor Track and Field All-Conference team in six events. The women recorded the highest scoring NSIC conference finishing place in CSP history with 41 points as they earned fifth place out of 15 teams. The men moved up to eighth place on day two with 45 points, scoring in seven different events.
 
Toni Canfall rallied in 13 points for the women with her finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash. The junior qualified for finals in both events on day one and walks away from the NSIC Indoor Championships as an All-NSIC sprinter for her record-breaking time in the 60m. She ran the race in 7.44 seconds to take second and break CSP's record while also automatically qualifying herself for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Canfall's record breaking habits continued in the 200m where she broke another school record with a time of 24.73 seconds to take fourth in the event and currently sits in 13th in the nation.
 
Later in the meet, Christabelle Mulcahy hit the track for the 60-meter hurdle finals. The junior qualified for the race after placing third in prelims with a time of 8.94 seconds. Mulcahy ran the race in 8.78 seconds on day two to strike an NCAA provo mark and earn eight points for the squad. The Stillwater, Minnesota native broke her personal record and placed second in the event to be named to the NSIC All-Conference team.
 
Benjamin Allen was the NSIC Champion in the One Mile for the second year in a row as he won the race in 4:16.17 and became the Champion in the 1000m run with a time of 2:27.98, both of which are NCAA provisional qualifying marks. As an All-Conference runner in two events, Allen contributed a total of 28 points to the men's team (1 mile, 1000m, 4x400, & distance medley).
 
In the field events, Marcus Gustaveson's new PR in the shot put makes him the NSIC Champion and an All-Conference thrower. The senior launched the shot 55'8.5" to win the event and earn 10 points for the Golden Bears.
 
Cory Warner tallied three points for the men with a time of 1:59.45 in the 800-meter run. He was also apart of the 4x400-meter relay with Benjamin AllenAndrew Johnson, and Brian Szutkowski that earned a sixth-place finish for three points.
 
On day one, Hannah Gustafson and Arika Robinson earned All-NSIC honors in their field events. Gustafson took second in the weight throw with a toss of 60'11.25" and Robinson placed third in high jump after clearing 5'4.25".
