Golden Bears win over St. Cloud State 2-1

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Concordia-St. Paul women's soccer team improved to 7-5-1 (6-3-1 NSIC) after a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears split the weekend with a loss on Friday.

Head Coach Steve Bellis commented on the match, "We showed some grit and pulled out a good team performance to get the win versus a well coached and organized team."

Scoring for the Golden Bears were Abby Kloiber in the 15th minute and Ciara Bailey in the 54th minute. With her goal, Kloiber has now scored four in the 2021 season and is tied with Corynn Grabau for second on her squad with four goals. She will also be placed on the NSIC leaderboard with her four goals. The Bailey goal is the first of the season for the defender.

The Kloiber goal was assisted by Ailee Snapko. It is her third assist of the season. The goal by Bailey was assisted by Sophie Pawlyshyn and Katie Glowinski. Pawlyshyn now leads her team with five assists and is top five in the NSIC for assists. The assist is also Glowinski's first assist in 2021.

As a squad, the Golden Bears had 20 shots and 10 on frame compared to the Huskies' 11 and six, respectively.

Katie Anderson recorded nine of her team's shots and three shots on goal. The nine shots keeps her at #1 in the NSIC for shots with 72 in 13 games played. Her three shots on goal were the most from a Golden Bear in the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Ashlyn Waldon had her first collegiate start in net after playing in two other contests earlier in the season. After playing the full 90 minutes she allowed only one goal against and recorded five saves.  She also made a save on a penalty kick from a handball in the box.

The Golden Bears will travel to North Dakota next weekend. They will play UMary on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and Minot State on Sunday, Oct. 24 at noon.
