FRISCO, Texas - This summer, Concordia-St. Paul assistant football coaches
Jon Medlo,
Jake Munkwitz and
Kerry Grigsby were able to gain relevant experience on a national level as coaches for the USA Football U14 National Team for the Inaugural Middle School Bowl Game Series as part of the Texas Classic.
Medlo who in previous years coached the offensive line, was the head coach for the first time this year. Munkwitz who was the defensive line coach last year served as the defensive coordinator, and Grigsby coached the defensive line for the U14 Stars team, who defeated the U14 Courage 28-7 on Monday, July 15
at The Star in Frisco, Texas - official headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys. Practices during the week leading up to the game were held at the University of Texas at Arlington. This was Medlo's third year in a row with USA Football, Munkwitz second year while Grigsby was invited for his first tour.
Medlo has been connected to USA Football for the past few years from his time at Hamline University. The connection extended to Munkwitz last year and now Grigsby which allowed the CSP assistants the opportunity to gain this years' experience.
The players featured are among the best in their age group and were selected from 18 regional camps across the country and evaluated by high school and college coaches.
Medlo, Munkwitz and Grigsby are all returning for another stint with Concordia's head coach
Shannon Currier, who is entering his fourth year back with the program after coaching at CSP from 2000 to 2003. The rest of the coaching staff features four of the five full time returners who were all on staff together a year ago.

Dwayne Waltower (defensive scout team). Concordia is coming off a 2018 season that featured a three-win improvement, a 5-6 overall record and fifth place finish in the NSIC South Division (3-4). The coaching staff is gearing up for fall camp which starts on Sunday, August 11 as they prepare for the 2019 season opener at home on Thursday, September 5 against Sioux Falls with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
