LARCHWOOD, Iowa – Concordia-St. Paul freshman
Noah Rasinski began his career in record breaking form, setting the program mark for a low 54-hole tournament score at 215 (-1) and earned individual medalist honors at the Battle at the Falls hosted by Augustana at Grand Falls Casino Resort.
Rasinski started the day in sixth place of 49 players, three strokes behind the co-leaders, Devon Schade of Manitoba and Riley Duncanson of St. Cloud State. Finishing three shots back and in the top-10 is a strong showing in a first collegiate meet, but Rasinski was not done. He finished the third round shooting a 68, four stokes under par rocketing himself into the lead, winning the first meet of the fall season. The 68 score was two shots shy of Nick Jarrett's program record 66 round (3/11/2010, Poston Butte Classic).
Rasinki's individual win is the first for the program since Adam Petterson captured the 2014 UIU Spring Invite honor (72-72=144, E).
Rasinski finished the tournament as the only golfer under par shooting -1 (215). The next closet golfers were from Manitoba who finished first in team score shooting a 20 over par (884). Josh Neufeld and Devon Schade finished tied for second at +2, three strokes behind Rasinski.
Heading into the final round, Concordia was tied for fifth out of seven teams shooting 50 over par (622).
Trent Anderson and
Chance Maiers improved their scores by shooting a 73, finishing tied for 18th, 11 spots higher then after the second round.
The low scores posted by Rasinski, Anderson, and Maiers helped the Golden Bears team to jump from fifth place after two rounds to a tie for third with the host school, Augustana in the final standings.
The Golden Bears improved their score each round by double-digits, going 317-305-292 to finish at 914 (+50). The 292 in the final round was the second lowest team score throughout the entire tournament, only topped by Manitoba's 287 in the second round.
Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team hopes to carry the momentum from this week over into this coming weekend when they travel to the Gopher Individual in Maple Plain, Minn. At Pioneer Creek Golf Course. They will be competing alongside a number of Division I programs at the event, with more information to come later this week.
