ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday at noon, Concordia-St. Paul (2-7 NSIC, 0-5 South) honors its 15 seniors with Senior Day as the Golden Bears look to
Tackle Cancer against Augustana University (6-3 NSIC, 3-2 South) at Sea Foam Stadium.
RANDY SHAVER'S TACKLE CANCER
At Saturday's game, the football team will be selling commemorative "Tackle Cancer" bracelets for $3 with all proceeds benefiting the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund. Last year, schools participating in the Tackle Cancer drive raised over $233,000 for Minnesota's cancer community. Known widely in the prep football community, Concordia football has participated at the collegiate level for multiple seasons. A unique distinction of Shaver's fund is that less than 10 percent of monies raised are spent on administrative costs, making it one of the most efficient uses of charitable giving.
Randy Shaver has been the sports director at KARE-11 television since 1994. While his focus has always been on cancer research and the Minnesota cancer community, Randy's fight became intensely personal when he himself became a patient shortly after his 1998 tournament. Diagnosed with Stave IV Hodgkin's Disease, Randy's treatment and subsequent remission have understandably made him even more passionate than ever about finding a cure.

Of the four team captains, junior
Matt Bjork is the only underclassman of the group. On the
November episode of Golden Bear Insider, he commented on the senior class, "I came in with a lot of the guys who are seniors, and I know the biggest thing they've been saying is that it doesn't seem real to them. So our goal as a team is to get them a win so they can go out on top."
Also asked about the senior class, head coach
Shannon Currier commented about the first group who will graduate in his return to the program, "All the players, but specifically the seniors, have bought into what we're trying to do and have accepted a new process and I really appreciate that. Theire leadership has been phenomenal and even though we haven't won games they've helped us lay the foundation for years to come. Their influence will be noticed and appreciated long after they're gone. Obviously we want to see them be successful because its really disappointing each week when there's a loss to see them impacted after a game. It means a lot to them, they've put in a lot of time in and you really want to see those kids have success for all the work they've done. We're really motivated to try to give them their best experience on Saturday, to honor them and play our best football so they can go out on top."
