MINOT, N.D. – The #3 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (19-2, 11-2 NSIC) picked up another sweep as they defeated Minot State (5-17, 0-13 NSIC) in straight sets on Friday night.
CSP moved to 11-0 away from Gangelhoff Center on the season and 6-0 in the all-time series with Minot State. The Golden Bears have now taken 18 out of a possible 19 sets against the Beavers in all meetings.
It was an all-around effort as CSP hit .384 with 56 kills while Minot State hit just .046 with 27 kills. Concordia also held an edge of 45-31 in digs, 7-4 in service aces and 6.0-1.0 in total blocks as they controlled nearly every aspect of the match.
Filling in for
Kasey Williams,
Elizabeth Mohr had a career night as she shattered her career high with 35 assists to go along with eight digs while guiding the Golden Bear offense to the win.
The two main beneficiaries were
Mariya Sampson and
Anna Schlaak as each collected 10 kills to lead the offense. Schlaak was especially efficient as she hit .474 with just one error while adding 10 digs for her fifth double-double in six matches. She also added a pair of aces.
Joining Schlaak in double figures in digs was
Emily McDonough, as McDonough led all players with 13 digs. McDonough extended her streak to eight straight matches with double-digit digs as she has finished with at least 10 in all but one match on the season.
For the Beavers, Janelle Nagy and Shelby Spuller led the way offensively as Nagy picked up a team-best eight kills while tying for the team lead with seven digs and Spuller chipped in seven kills. Kelsey Dewulf contributed 19 assists as well as seven digs.
The Golden Bears came out firing with the first four points as they set the tone early. CSP used another 4-0 run a little later in the set to extend it to eight at 14-6 before rattling off a 7-0 run to push it all the way to 14 at 23-9. The Beavers bounced back with two straight before Concordia closed out the opening set 25-11.
The second set was a bit more even right off the bat as the score sat at 4-4 until four straight gave Concordia a comfortable lead. That lead remained at four at 10-6 before a 5-1 run doubled CSP's advantage. It eventually hit double figures following a 4-0 run to make it 20-10 as the Golden Bears rolled to a 25-13 set win to make it 2-0.
An early 7-0 run gave the Golden Bears a quick 11-4 lead and put them in the driver's seat as they looked to close out the sweep. Minot State battled back, however, as they pulled as close as four on several occasions before CSP regained control and took six of the last seven points to finish off the three-set win by taking the third 25-16.
Concordia will look to keep it going tomorrow night as they take on U-Mary at 6 p.m.
