MAYETTA, Kan. — The Concordia-St. Paul men's golf team wrapped up play at the Firekeeper Open on Tuesday afternoon at the Firekeeper Golf Course. The Golden Bears shot a 302 (+14) in the final round to card a 901 (+37) for the tournament, finishing in 13th place.
Josh Esterley shot a 77 (+5) in the final round to card a 222 (+6) for the tournament, finishing in 26th place on the individual leaderboard. In the third round Esterley managed 14 pars, shooting a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine for a five over par round. The junior golfer finished the tournament with 12 birdies, good for second place among the competition.
Senior Trey Timm shot a 73 (+1) in the final round, carding a 230 (+14) moving up 19 spots on day two and finishing in 70th place. Timm tallied one birdie in the final round of play and added one eagle on the scorecard on the par five fifth hole.
Carson Boe shot a 76 (+4) in the third round, putting together a three round total of 226 (+10) and finishing in 50th place. Boe tallied two birdies in the final round with both of them coming on the back nine on holes 11 and 13.
Freshman Sean Leutner carded a 76 (+4) in the third round as well, putting together a three round score of 227 (+11) to finish in 55th place. Leutner birdied five times in the final round, including three on the front nine where he carded a 37, the freshman birdied a total of 11 times across a three rounds, tied for fifth most amongst the competition.
Chase Camilli was the fifth player scoring for the Golden Bears and shot a 81 (+9) in the final round to card a 235 (+19) for the tournament, finishing in 85th place. Camilli birdied three times in the final round on holes nine, 17 and 18.
Cale Thompson competed individually, shooting a 79 (+9) in the third round for a tournament score of 232 (+16), good for a 78th place finish. Thompson birdied once on hole 17 and added an eagle in the par five fourth hole.
Central Oklahoma claimed the top spot in the team competition shooting a 285 (-3) in the final round, for a three round score of 863 (-9), finishing 13 strokes ahead of second place Washburn.
Winona State was the top NSIC team at the tournament, taking fourth place overall after shooting a collective 17 over par.
Myle Tarvin of Washburn and Rhett Hughes of Central Oklahoma finished in a tie for first place individually with scores of 210 (-6) across all three rounds. Javier Casariego of Winona State was the top NSIC finisher with a three round score of 217 (+1) in a tie for sixth place.
The Golden Bears will now turn their attention to the NSIC Championships, the three round tournament is set for April 17-19 at the Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville, Missouri.
